Holy cow. Terrific edition of the Gallant Bob... As good a lineup as you could want. A bit surprised a couple here didn't opt for the Vosburgh. Anyone that chose this over the Vos certainly didn't get any class relief.

A bunch of toughies here that I've particularly liked all year...

Lantana Mob..
Devereaux..
Golden Spikes..

And hot up n' comers too...

Rollers..
Desert Key..
Fujita..

Hell.. even the local Midlantic set is intriguing..

MJ's Enchanteur..
Cobra Strike..
Courting Wisdom..

They'll double enter and pick their spot.

Desert Key is the only horse here that nominated to the Vosburgh..

Those that didn't Vos nominate expected Midnight Lute, Abraaj, Benny the Bull, etc. to be there, and of course that's not the way things have turned out.

Two of those horses were already toast before nominations closed. I think what's at play here is a big purse (comparable to the Vosburgh) while remaining in their own age group. None of those horses is proven Grade 1, or even considered at the top of the 3yo sprint division, though they may be up-and-coming. Not to mention they are not all NY-based (the main horse, Desert Key is, was nominated, and seems spotted for action by going here). Didn't Visionaire just light up half of them?

I don't get it. What makes this field so good? It's a race of three year olds.

More specifically, three year olds of this year.

Desert Key is a very very serious horse.

Was the King's Bishop a good race? Those were three year olds. Those that think little of the sophs generally are focused on the route-goers anyway. Sprinters are sprinters. This is a really well-matched group that provides for a terrific betting affair.

I would have to strongly, but respectivley, disagree that there is no class relief from the Vosburgh. I dont see any fab strikes in there.
Very nice group to ship to Philly, no doubt.
Just 1 of the 50 races I want to bet this weekend.:zz:

Cobra Strike, a horse that I've been following for a while now, seems to be up against it in here. I'm sure there were MUCH easier spots to try him in than this.

It was a good race in that it was entertaining. How " good " a group it is remains to be seen. Desert Key may be OK. Kodiak Kowboy may get a great trip tomorrow in NY. However, as a group, they have a long way to go before they are considered more than an ordinary group of supposed top class performers.

After 400 re-reads, I still can't believe I read that. You honestly believe that on a class level, this is equal to the Vosburgh?

Uh, no. And that wasn't the suggestion.

What price do you think Kodiak Kowboy and J Be K will be in there?

Desert Key's tenacious enough in a speed duel to save a placing against his fellow 3yos. What do you think will happen against older, world-class frontrunning speed?

It might not be too pretty. Wait til next year.

Desert Key boxed with Rollers, possibly some good value there
