Took a look at the newly renovated turf at KD yesterday.
It looks outstanding.

Thinking about going on Saturday, sounds like a cool track. How long from Lexington?

philcski 09-11-2008 01:31 PM

It's official... Mr. and Ms. Philcski will be attending opening day at Kentucky Downs.
I'll bring the bourbon.

One of my favorite meets, enjoy. Would like to make it down there sometime.

booner 09-11-2008 09:12 PM

It's a blast. I'll be there every day of the meet, rain or shine!!

Hey I stopped by there last year to see the track in the Fall. What kind of crowd do they draw and if there are a lot of people do you bring your own lawn chairs to sit outside because the only outdoor seating I saw was a very small grandstand outside of turn one.

When handicapping the Downs, it pays to look for horses and jockeys who have been successful at the track before. The stretch is considerably longer than your average turf course stretch so jocks who move at their usual time will find they run out of horse with a furlong to go. The track is also up-and-down in places and some horses don't handle that well, either. It was originally built as a steeplechase course; they had a huge money (for a jumps race) purse 'chase the first year it was open and a mare from Britian came over and copped the lot.

Tons of class in the Turf Stakes..... But is it current enough class????? Been running against good turfers lately but not too many wins... I am gonna take a shot in this one on Rumor Has It gonna be near the front early and may widen it enough before the big names get rolling...

It's now or never for Fort Prado:

1) finally gets a race with plenty of middle movers

2) xtra 1/16th won't hurt either

Hopefully we'll get the morning line.

Hook him up with Lord Robyn (just about the worst ride of the meet last out).

At Ky Downs right now... What a cool place. Feels like sitting on a porch watching a farm. All I need is a Lynchburg Lemonade.

AeWingnut 09-13-2008 02:38 PM

Where is Ky Downs?

Bombs away... nice call.

We spent the day with Vol Jack and Mike Maker. The 4 of us kept talking about how the turf course holds speed more than you would expect, yet despite only one pacesetter in the field did anyone consider him? Of course not.

booner 09-14-2008 09:52 AM

That was a good hit, swede. Rumor Has It looked good leading all the way.

I was as shocked as everyone else. It was easy to see that he was going to be the lone frontrunner, but the sucker has faded EVERY time he had run.

Kudos to the connections........you blew me away.
