Just a rumor Im guessing?

cowgirlintexas 09-10-2008 06:44 AM

That would be aweful if true... :(

Danzig 09-10-2008 07:26 AM

i think it's irresponsible to come on here with a 'rumor', concede there is no proof of validity, yet post it anyway. is the desire to be the one who knew something so great that you would risk putting up a thread with no proof--and it turns out to be unfounded?

Nah, Larry Jones would be fine. Porter, by all accounts, is 'difficult' (to be kind).

slotdirt 09-10-2008 08:02 AM

Wouldn't be the first time the owner in question has jettisoned a trainer...

You want journalistic standards around here?

This is an internet message board - not the New York Post.

Being as this board is run by a member of the "racing media" I would think that the owner ofthe BB would prefer that random rumors not be propagated here. Steve is not "just some fan" but a media person with a reputation to be concerned about.
I wouldn't be shocked if Porter canned Jones, he's a "trainer shopper" IMO. That said, unless it's more than backstretch gossip, keep it on the backstretch.

Kasept 09-10-2008 10:41 AM

The 'rumor' as it were, is untrue. Just spoke to Larry Jones who says everything is OK with him and Rick Porter.

The kernal of truth that may have started the rumor however is that Jones said he will NOT be taking in any new 2 year olds next year in an attempt to pull back somewhat from his current obligations. He worked with 60+ two year olds this year and said he can't do it again. He hasn't decided if he will be taking a complete break from training at some point, but did say that the year round pressures of the game take a toll from which he'd like to get a break. He did say Porter will have to find someone else to send his 2009 juveniles to, and that may have started the larger rumor of a breakup between the two...

He is excited about another Derby run however, and will be sending Friesan Fire and High Mesa in the Futurity at Belmont Saturday...

Wow.

Do you really think that rumors posted on a PUBLIC message board actually affect the owner of that message board's reputation?

TheSpyder 09-10-2008 12:24 PM

Not only rumers, but if Steve's reputation is based on the content of this site by it's members.....he might as well pack it in right now and go hide in the Cah Sol

No. The politics forum does.

Depending on the source on a message board, I have found that message boards are often more reliable and accurate than the mainstream media sources, such as the Post.

That would hold true for this board.

Porter is an angel compared to owners like Michael Gill and is antics. His treatment of Mike Catalano and other trainers, as well as horses, was text book bad.

Interesting you could also say that about politics.

CSC 09-10-2008 07:10 PM

On another note, originally I thought this was a silly rumor. Why? How many 30% Trainers get fired I asked....Then I thought of Patrick Byrne and more recently Todd Pletcher. Not so silly anymore.
