It was clearly the smart route for him to go with the more experienced running mate.

Hillary was out from the get go. IMO...mainstream Americans aren't ready to embrace that much change, that quickly (Black President/Female VP). The other 2 that were being talked about (Kaine and Bayh) seemingly lacked the experience that would have made Dems feel more comfortable with their chances come Nov.

i'm stunned as well. wasn't it biden who referred to obama as being 'clean and articulate'? for someone chasing after change, he sure picked a funny guy to help pass the message, hasn't biden been on capitol hill for years?

ArlJim78 08-23-2008 08:29 AM

i strongly disagree that it was a good choice for many reasons. but first and foremost because Biden is simply not likable.

he's way more likable than hillary-satan.

Mike 08-23-2008 08:45 AM

I disagree with you, ArlJim, I find Biden very likable, in some of the same ways that I find McCain likable. I wanted Biden as the Veep, but they will have to endure the initial publicity of Biden's own criticism of Obama

As for Biden's remarks about Obama being the first mainstream, articulate, bright and clean African-American to run for Pres., I think many blacks understand what he's saying. Obama is no Al Sharpton

I don't like Biden...the guy is a pr*ck, plain and simple. Im just stating IMO that picking someone like him, as a long time "insider" makes more sense for the Democratic Party than someone with little experience in and around Washington, like Kaine or Bayh.

I'm not a Joe Biden historian, so I am open to hearing why Biden is so disliked by a few here(already)

Isn't he a McCain personal friend, as are the Clintons?

you say "already" like he is fresh face that we have to get to know. he's disliked because he comes a cross as a pompous knowitall who like to think he's the smartest guy in the room. he's nasty and sarcastic and at the same time has a phony smile on his face.

why don't you ask democrats why they didn't like Biden in the primary. he basically had no impact. Biden has never made a ripple on the national scene, yet Obama bypasses Clinton, who he barely beat for the nomination and has rabid national support, for a guy who scored a zero in the primary.

I have a jaded view of most politicians, especially career politcians like Biden. IMO they are self-seeking egomaniacs that quickly lose sight of the things that really matter and tend to forget the reasons they were elected, which is to serve others.

I totally agree with this. Aren't too many more arrogant politicians than him. He turned me off a long time ago.

arljim, I said "already" in reference to this thread, and to several people "already" weighing in with a big negative on Biden with only a handful of responses given at this time.

What politicians do some of you guys "like". If you like either of the Bush's or Cheney, I doubt we can have a constructive conversation because I find support for that trio, in any form, politically or personally, unimaginable.

I do like some aspects of McCain's personality, though I wouldn't want him to be President

I was actually a fan of what Mark Warner was able to accomplish as Gov. of Virginia.

The Indomitable DrugS 08-23-2008 11:22 AM

Why? He never married Elizabeth Taylor.

well i guess we can't have a constructive conversation for some reason, because i do like Dick Cheney quite a bit. politically and personally, and i have no problem with either of the Bushes personally although neither was a favorite politically.
