Big Brown headed to Monmouth

http://drf.com/news/article/97460.html

He's going to compete in the newly created Monmouth Stakes 1 1/8 miles on turf $500,000 if he runs.

fpsoxfan 08-21-2008 06:39 AM

Good for him. I was once a big fan of this horse, but now I've had it with the connections. The weasals should put their money where their mouth is and face off with Curlin.

ninetoone 08-21-2008 08:20 AM

If that day comes, Curlin is gonna spank his ass.

blackthroatedwind 08-21-2008 08:54 AM

For a camp that claimed they had a better horse than Curlin in every way they sure are going to unusual lengths to avoid him.

ArlJim78 08-21-2008 09:04 AM

no better way to prove that your horse is the best then to run him in the storied Monmouth Stakes.

blackthroatedwind 08-21-2008 09:05 AM

It's the nouveau thing to do.

Status quo for them, lie to anyone that will listen. Then claim to be the good guys.

Nice to see how these New Yorkers support New York racing.

Benny Leger 08-21-2008 10:50 AM

It seems to me they have nothing to lose, and everything to gain, by running against Curlin. I don't think BB would win, but If he did beat Curlin....

steve had them on the radio the other day. hope Steve took a shower after the interview, they are just slimy to listen too.

Big Brown is nothing more than an overrated 3yr old that was beating the absolutely worst crop of 3yr olds in decades. Horses that were winning Derby preps and running in the derby are now getting trounced by slow NY breds.

I would love nothing more than to see Mambo in Seattle tear off wins in the Travers, Goodwood, and BCC and take the 3yr old eclipse and HOY away from Big Brown. Being a Kingmambo he has a shot. Although the O'Briens Kingmambo is probably going to romp in the Classic.

I wish you'd stop mushing Mambo in Seattle.

it's for three and up. i think curlin ought to show up. after all, didn't asmussen say that curlin always made a better effort on his second go 'round on a course? of course that wouldn't really be following the letter of that law exactly, but it would be curlins second start on turf.
what the hell...jackson is so hot for the face off, do it here!

yes, Jackson should show up with Curlin. Hell, Big Brown looks to be done as it is. I imagine if Curlin does run there's a chance they could race each other into submission and Red Rocks or someone would be there to pick up the pieces.

You don't cater to the guy who's been talking the smack. You make him either come to you or look foolish. Besides, let's see what I'd rather win.. Woodward/Jockey Club Gold Cup.. Monmouth Stakes.. Really a toss-up.

oh, i'd rather win the woodward/jcgc as well. but i wonder how much money monmouth would put up if jackson expressed interest? i just wonder what the reaction from ieah would be if jackson announced curlin was going to show up. would love to be a fly on the wall...

What's the deal with the purse jumping from 200K to half a million if Big Brown shows up. Talk about Tiger Woodslike appearance fees. How often have you seen a purse go up 1.5 times the original value for getting in the gate in this country. And why there? Wouldn't it make more sense to try and run at least one race on poly if you are even remotely interested in conquering the Classic?

Why would he want to face Asmussen's best synthetic horse and lose?

Than you can't say your the best if you have to duck the Breeders Cup completely or the Classic specifically. What's BB gonna do that weekend??....if they take to the green they'll find a little different gathering than a Saratoga MSW.

They can say what they want but BB's last was far from the efforts in Ky and Fla. The connections want to be crowned but don't have a king who wants to earn it. They gain nothing running in Jersey but the purse....respect is about winning BIG races not earnings. I'm surprised the connections don't get to fill the field with hand picked claimers so BB doesn't crack a sweat.

dalakhani 08-21-2008 11:48 PM

Jess Jackson was making a lot of challenges

If he wants the Brown horse, he knows where to find him come mid september.

I just dont understand how Jackson gets a pass for ducking the BCC and Big Brown's connections get hell for wanting to wait until the championship for a showdown.
