And stick another fork in Maryland - we're just about done.
DeFrancis Dash won't be funded this year by the MTHA, nor will the Laurel Futurity, Selima, Sonny Hine, the Shapiro, or the Safely Kept. Add to that it looks like Pimlico will shut down as a training track and the spring meet might be reduced to 10 days. Then throw in a report from a gambling analyst that up to 50% of all purse earned in 2007 were earned by non-Maryland racing interests, which he translates into the purse subs from slots walking out of the state..... All for your pleasure in today's Baltimore Sun http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/horseracing/ I can't believe Magna sticks around much longer here. |
I'm going to enjoy Laurel while I can. Twilight racing next Thursday is on the agenda.

i wonder tho if getting magna the hell out of maryland would help the slots cause? it's not as tho anyone is really going to stick their neck out to help right that sinking ship. it's one thing to help racing in maryland, but to help out magna? they don't exactly inspire confidence. |
I guess my ESP was working. On Tuesday I asked Steve on the air if he knew of any MEC developments. I kind of wait for the next shoe to drop as Remington Park gears up for it's 20th anniversary Thoroughbred Meet. These developments continue to make the future of MEC tracks as clear as mud.
