Is Robbie "5 wide" gonna be a mainstay at Toga this year?

The 7th race is awfully nice too.

I can't even think of Desert Party without remembering PG1985 asking Scav if the colt looked like a "Derby winner" in his debut.

Even so, it was hard not to be impressed with his race that day, even if it did come on the poly. I like his chances here.

After watching the replay I completely agree. To win from that post going that distance with that type of wide move is very sharp and the fact that he conducted himself like a seasoned racehorse in the lane (quick to change leads, dropped down towards the inside once in front) is even more encouraging.

His last workout (5fs in 1:00 B) over the main track suggests the surface switch shouldn't be an issue.

Kev, he elected to skip AP and try SAR full time. We'll see how it works out for him.

He got off to a good start with the win today.

Note Notonthesamepage will be scratched tomorrow, developed a fever. Probably will end up in the Special, I'd imagine.

Damn. I was hoping to beat him with Desert Party. There won't be any value there now.

Coach Pants 07-23-2008 08:35 PM

Well there goes any price on Vineyard Haven.

hockey2315 07-23-2008 08:40 PM

If the rail somehow comes back to life tomorrow I might play the 1.

Desert Party was pretty awesome in his debut, and could be any kind, but that field was awful he beat.

I also find Vineyard Haven interesting. Frankel purchased this one privately for himself, and immediately sends him to the toughest spot he could find, not a typical Frankel move, which indicates to me he thinks he's got something...

I think that the El Corredor colt that got up for second in Desert Party's debut might turn out okay, and if I remember correctly, somebody else in there impressed me a bit with a fairly big run down the stretch from well back. It wasn't a great group to be sure, but I don't know if I would describe them as awful.

Vineyard Haven is certainly interesting as well. It really is too bad that the favorite scratched. It looked like a very intriguing race.

I heard he was considering scratching him depending on what the field looked like.

It's funny you mention that because there was a whole chapter in Bet with the Best 2 (I think that was the one, maybe Expert Handicapping) about how Bobby Frankel is one to watch when he takes a horse and moves them wildly up in class. The horse they highlighted was Miss Coronado years ago in the Davona Dale at Gulfstream. I guess this is a somewhat similar circumstance for what it's worth.

Of course this being a Frankel animal he's 3-1 to win and 1-2 to scratch.

Country Star won the alcibedes as a maiden last year as well. At the same time, i can remember a few duds where he did the same thing. Either way, it seems that you can never really get a price.

Why did Todd P. scratch his horse? Does he not know that Seeking the Gold over Danzig is unreal off track breeding?
