I still think they are going to take a shot with him and bring him out to Saratoga for the Travers to take on Bernardini. I know he likes CA, but I think they still think he is the best 3yr old.

Did you hear something? Just curious, ESPN's coverage last week from Del Mar, they interviewed Hendricks sounded like he was pointed to the race at towards the end of the meet.

I think it's very unlikely that they would run in there. There's no way they could have him ready. That was his first work. They would only have time to get 4 more works in him before the Travers. I wouldn't think they would bring him back in a 1 1/4 mile race off just a few works.

I heard they still think he is the best 3yr old in the country. If he wants the Eclipse for 3yr old of the year he needs to win a big race and he isn't going to do it in CA.

I have a really hard time believing that a trainer who was groomed under Richard Mandella would rush an unfit colt back simply to take a shot at the Eclipse award. If they're that serious about his talent, they're preparing him for a 4 year campaign, no doubt starting off with the Strub series.

I thought they planned on entering Brother Derek in the Haskell. He should just stay in CA and race against horses that he can compete with.

brother derek can compete. he was how wide all the way 'round in the derby, and still picked up a check. and then he had the bad luck to be behind barbaro when he broke down in the preakness, that sure didn't help him out there--and what do you know...picked up another check.
don't discount this horse. he had some rotten luck/rotten trips in the tc.

i don't see him coming to the travers, that's the craziest idea i've seen today.
just think...comes back early in sept, runs well, has one more race, and if he runs well he comes to the bcc as his third off a layoff. i bet that's their plan...any hiccups, there's always next year.
