Strong anti-steroid rules start in Cali Not a great link (with Netflix pop up), but good piece by Larry Bortstein about the CA rules that went into affect yesterday... http://www.pe.com/sports/breakout/st....47a50fc.html# |

Interesting. The CHRB has made yet another knee jerk reaction without thinking of some potential consequences. Even shorter fields for anything other than claimers and maiden races on the poly. Great. |

I dont think that the CA rules are any stronger or different than any of the other states with anti-steroid rules. What i would love to know is are they prepared to test for the other 66 known anabolic steroids too? |

I'm sure there is nothing the trainers out there fear more than a dreaded warning. |

It's a start. Each long journey begins with the first step. |

You can still give steroids in California. You can still use them for the proper reason. You can't give it a week before a race, but you can give it to a horse after every race to help the horse recover. The withrdrawl period for Winstrol is about 3-4 weeks. So if you run your horse once a month, you could still give him Winstrol right after the race. Equipoise takes a little longer to get out of the system. Equipoise takes more like 6 weeks. Since many of you say that steroids are for therapeutic purposes rather than performance-enhancing purposes, why would you have any problem with the new rules? You can still give the horses Winstrol once a month. |

It will be interesting to see what effect the new rules will have on a guy like Barry Abrams who supposedly gives his horses huge doses of steroids once a week. I will be curious to see if his win percentage goes way down. |
