Any word on jockey Frank Alvarado in the 11th Stakes at Pleasanton?
 

Just home from what was otherwise a grand day at the Pleasanton Fair meet.

Watching the calracing.com replays, noted that Frank Alvardo's mount....Thiscatsgotcharm.....hit the rail with the lead in the stretch.

The horse seemed to go on fine, but Frank was motionless on the track in the replay.

This was just a bit over two hours ago, so not sure if there are any details.

Thiscatsgotcharm, making only his third start and his first try around two turns, opened a three-length lead in the stretch and seemed in command when he suddenly ducked inward, tried to jump the rail near the sixteenth pole, and lost jockey Frank Alvarado, who was uninjured and walked off the track.


Guess there are no motivated "Encylopedia Brown's" here.....(back, back, way back)....but with a little time I did manage to answer my own question.

Glad to hear he's alright. I would have loved to help you with your question, but there was'nt any mention of it anywhere. Must have been one of those situations that looked bad but was'nt.

Sometimes they (horses and jockeys) get the wind literally knocked out of them and can't move until they get their breath back. I've seen steeplechasers who haven't moved for several minutes (and everyone has feared the worst) suddenly lurch to its feet, give a little shake, and walk off none the worse for wear.

That happens to me all the time.:zz:
