Elizabeth Queen sets horse-racing loss record
The Yomiuri Shimbun

AMAGASAKI, Hyogo--Seven-year-old racehorse Elizabeth Queen marked her 162nd consecutive loss Tuesday at Himeji racecourse in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, breaking the 16-year-old national record for consecutive winless races.

The horse finished second out of seven in the course's first race of the day.

Elizabeth Queen was the second favorite for the race at the 1,400-meter dirt course as her winless streak attracted horse racing fans. She ran third at the beginning of the race and overtook the second horse at the final stretch before finishing second by 1-1/4 lengths.

"Finishing races safely is a condition for a good horse. She'll surely win if she keeps racing," said Tetsuharu Kuribayashi, a trainer of the horse.
