Willie deserved better!

Willie Randolph, who has handled himself like a true professional through his whole career, including the late season collapse and early season hangover deserved so much better than to be flown out to the west coast and fired. Why wait till the Mets (who actually looked like they may have turned the corner) win 3 out of 4 and 5 out of the last 7. Not to mention before that, Billy Wagner blew his last 3 save opportunites. That included 2 gems thrown by Santana and Pelfrey. This also a team that has been ravaged by injuries. They have had guys like Angel Pagan, Nick Evans (who was called up from single A because the system is barren) and Trot Nixon play the outfield. Plus a couple of other retread's who have had to pitch. This is some cast that was assembled by Omar Minaya, who really deserves the blame. Older guys that were suposed to be counted on have been hurt and ineffective (Alou, Martinez, Castillio, Hernandez and Delgado who is killing them). The pitching has been spotty at best, Oliver Perez has givin them a few outing where he has lasted less than 2 inns including a start where he lasted 1/3 of an inn. John Maine has lost something too. The bullpen has just been bad, Heilman, Scoenwies and now Wagner have just been awful. Even the studs, Reyes who can't even seem to field latley has struggled since the All star break last year. He does look like he is starting to come out of it, along with Beltran who is starting to get hot. David Wright started strong but even he has faultered lately. They has just been bad as a collective group.
It's funny in NY, that alot of people call the Mets the Los Mets because most of the team is latin. They fired 3 coaches 2 white guys and a black guy and made one of the holdover latin guys the manager. I find that amusing.
I personally think that Omar Minaya is just trying to save his own head from the chopping block by diverting some of the attention of how bad of a team that he put together and putting it on Willie. I understand in today's sports landscape that it is just easier to fire the manager than to do something with players that are making tons of money. There were a couple of times that they could have fired Willie, but why wait till the 1st game of a West Coast jaunt. It just turns out to be a classless move by a classless organization.

Ever get fired? Ever fire anybody? WTF. Is there really any good time? Doing it at 3pm on a Friday doesn't really work in baseball.

Willie had a big sitdown with management a couple of weeks and he got through that. Then they lost 6 out of 7 on a road trip though San Fran and San Diego (2 pretty bad clubs) and still nothing. There were 2 chances to dismiss him and no one could ask any questions.

Fire the F'N overpaid players!
Both N.Y teams are class less the way they handled firing both Joe Torre & Willie Randolph.....both WON'T make the playoffs this year and serves them right! There's NO honor or loyality in professional sports ANYMORE!

i think it would have been better to have fired him last year after the collapse

this team has had no spark since that sept collapse last sept

The mets issues have more to do with a blackhole in left field, Oliver perez coming apart at the seams, having 2 legit starters, Aaron heilman and jorge Sosa, and Billy Wagner getting very hittable lately.
I think its funny when people call Santana a bust, where would they be without him?
