If Da' Tara can, then they are a whole lot of horses that can make noise in this division.

If Pyro returns to his previous dirt form he could be a monster in this group.

I am very excited to see Pyro coming back. After his clunker on the Poly, then his disappointing finishing in the Derby, I think there is no bigger question out there right now than how he will do. Very true that if he can regain his previous dirt form that he will be a moster, and if not he is pretty much done.

What form he is slow like the rest of this years class.. His best race was sucking up for second in the Champagne to the only fast horse..War Pass

Here are some of the horses Pyro beat this spring in his two victories:

My Pal Charlie
Yankee Bravo
Blackberry Road (Eligible for allowance conditions)
Stevil (Non-threat in the Preakness)
Tale of Ekati (1st Wood Memorial, 4th KY Derby)
Majestic Warrior (Lost both the Derby Trial and Woody Stephens)
J Be K (Was never a router)
Unbridled Vicar
Z Fortune (Lost the... Ohio Derby!)
Visionaire (Dusted in the Derby)

Is there anyone besides Big Brown that would somehow make that list more impressive? Guadalcanal beat Big Brown so does that mean he's better?

Whoopity doo.

oh he beat other plugs in Louisiana this winter. BFD.

Sure seems his best running was done as a 2YO

I don't know if that is fair to say about a closer who lost his races as a 2yo and then won them as a 3yo. If he doesn't get the same setup on the front end but still closes to win then I don't think the time is that important. I think he's a better horse from 8 to 8.5 furlongs that has his closing kick dulled as the distances get longer.

Coach Pants 06-10-2008 01:17 PM

Put him under the care of a honest trainer and he'll end up being a 40k claimer.

That's my feeling as well.

I'm more impressed with the run Recapturetheglory had in the Derby than anything Pyro did this year.

He did run huge in the Derby

He will be tough if he runs that race

ateamstupid 06-10-2008 02:59 PM

Guess I saw it differently than you guys. He tracked an average pace, totally avoided trouble, and held on for fifth. What was huge about it?

Did you happen to know that he was acting like an idiot and tossed ET Baird in the tunnel, he was completely bonkers.

I also thought he ran pretty big in the Derby given that circumstance

I saw his last work, live actually, and it was real good, first 2f in 24, last two in 20 and was full of run....
