C'mon Rio, I need 7 Stars points.

Are either of you playing Godolphin 7 Stars this year?

Happy Boy just run and came in 9th.

If Rio is good enough to win a Derby, I think I willgive this game up!

If New Approach handles Epsom (I'm not sure he will) I think he has an outstanding chance. I'd like to see Doctor Fremantle run well, too.

brockguy 06-07-2008 05:46 AM

disappointed with the Oaks result, but Weld or Bolger will have the winner of the Derby...

NoChanceToDance 06-07-2008 05:53 AM

Being a Brit, I hope one of our trainers can do it. It's not often we will win the Oaks and Derby, so this year would be nice.

Plenty of talk about Doctor Fremantle this morning in town. Fallon sat on him the other day and really pleased him. He's my antepost bet in the race, he looks like he might be another Kris Kin.

New Approach looks like the one to beat. I like Casual Conquest, but he doesn't strike me as a Derby winner, too inexperienced and I'm not sure what the form is really worth.

NoChance, of the brits Doctor Fremantle would be the one i want..

would love to see New Approach win it to live up to the potential that he has.

I think you have to have a place bet on Washington Irving though, he is simply too big..

I think he is our best chance of winning it, and, as I say, there is plenty of talk about him this morning. I would be surprised if there was a bit of a move for him later on today. I can see him going off around 6's or 7's.

New Approach is available at 6's on betfair right now. To me, that's a cracking each way bet, but then again, I expected him to win both Guineas!

See, I don't think Washinton Irving is that good, in fact, I don't think he is actually much at all, other than hype. This is one of the main reasons in can't have Casual Conquest on my mind. I think both will struggle. (watch them dominate and pay a huge exacta now!!!)

i love playing hype horses after the hype has died down on them. I dont think there is that much between most of the O'Brien horses so Washington i think is the best bet for me, but i can only really see him being a non threatening 2nd or 3rd a la Eagle Mountain..

I put a nice big bet on New Approach at 6s just there, it is just too big for a horse like him..

I wish I was one of those "in the know" who managed to back him at bigger than 50's!!

my miss storm cat 06-07-2008 10:21 AM

Didn't think he could... New Approach wins.

NoChanceToDance 06-07-2008 11:52 AM

Why didn't you think he could?

He had the best form in the race, he was the highest rated and this season he has finished runner up to probably the best miler in europe (perhaps the world this year). How on earth he was allowed to touch 13/2 on track is beyond me.

If he hadn't have run in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, what price would he have been? I'm guessing about 2/1, maybe shorter than that.

He hated the firm ground in Ireland, and that was visible from watching it, but he still finished 2nd in a classic - that is what many people seemingly forgot.

Over the moon for this fella, not to happy about Bolger winning it, but I can't have the best of both worlds.

Well done New Approach.

SO "NEW APPROACH" WON, WELL DONE :{>:

_ed_ 06-07-2008 08:27 PM

That was an impressive performance, was sure Tartan Bearer had the race under control 2 furlongs out but New Approach stayed on strongly.

brockguy 06-08-2008 03:32 PM

quality from NA, just such a brilliant horse and he is defo a derby winner that you could say would have no trouble dropping back to 10f and being superb.

I dont often give Manning credit, but he gave him a cracker of a ride. he was brave and could easily have gotten in trouble (well he did still barge Frankie) but everything worked out..

brockguy 06-09-2008 01:33 PM

New Approach still 4 pounds inferior to Authroized at this stage in their careers? Give me a break!!

For fans of Extras
"Are you having a laugh? Is he having a laugh?"

EDIT - trying to find article but think its RPR of 126 for NA and 130 for Auth whereas on official ratings, its 126 for both..

NoChanceToDance 06-09-2008 03:04 PM

He's rated inferior to Authorized?!?!?!?!?!?!? Was the handicapper awake on Saturday?
