SA Breeders Cup Tickets

I am planning on going to the Breeders Cup this year. Tickets for the grandstand are as much as $1000 for both days. GA are only $20/day but will I even see anything? I go to the Belmont every year but that place is big enough to fit 100k fans. Any suggestions on if it is worth getting great seats or will I be fine with GA. Also, any idea on the capacity of Santa Anita or the expected turnout?

Thanks!

Can't help you on the Santa Anita GA situation. Maybe one of the locals can help out or even send an e-mail to SA and ask them what areas you will be allowed in with a GA ticket and if you'll actually be allowed out front to see the track.

Attendance:

1986 69,155
1993 55,130
2003 51,648

Not sure what their capacity is with the temp seating on the apron.

As far as good seats go, I am not the one to give any advice. I have gone to 9 Breeders Cups and each time asked for and paid for good seats, up front, following the ticket lottery rules for each year and have never sat inside the 1/8th pole. After paying three figures each for tickets last year at Monmouth and sitting well beyond the 1/8th pole (again), on the tarmac, in folding chairs and getting drenched, I have given up. I will watch all future BC's from my couch.

For what it's worth, I've been to 6 BC and bought excellent seats outside the park of each for less than face value on race day. You just need a reliable seating map and patience

Thanks to all for your response. Given the feedback it sounds like the seats are a rip off and GA sucks too. I went to the 2005 BC at Belmont and bought the GA tickets. I had a horrible view from the 1/4 pole and by the 3rd race i just watched it on TV. Not looking forward to that again.

Maybe it is just wishful thinking but I would love to see Curlin destroy Big Brown in the classic. If that is the case the attendance would be 75k? and tickets outside wouldn't be anywhere close to face value. Then again, if neither of those horses enter, the attendance would be 50k at best.

The key words for the BC at SA is "See the races"

A friend of mine called SA office about BC seats and he was told most of the infield will have corporate tents that will be 24' high. They think it will block most, if not all of the backstretch from any seat in the grandstand/clubhouse.
The Frontrunners restaurant will be way above the obstructed view. It is a great place to watch the races. I dont know how reservations will work that day but if you could get a seat at a table that would be the way to go. On most days Frontrunners only requires a clubhouse admission stamp on your hand and you can mingle at the bar and watch the races from the trackside windows or watch on TV. I would think that wont be the case on BC day.

A second person on a different forum confirmed my friends findings. You might want to call SA main switchboard and ask to speak to someone about BC seating to confirm. I certainly wouldnt want to pay $100-$300 for seats, per day for two days worth of racing, to not be able to see the backside.

i have no inside info but i would be stunned if they had frontrunner's open for any schmo that bought a clubhouse admission.

it's too good a location not to be locked down for someone paying huge $. they'd be nuts to give those seats away for clubhouse admission and the cost of a meal on bc day.

That's why they have TV screens. . . Who actually watches the backside?
