Is he a Great?

Greatness can be subjective so my question is directed toward those who use the word only rarely and in its purest sense...

He was a bargin basement horse, purchased by a cab driver. A blue collar hero, a champion for the masses.

I'm sure most if not all of you know the story, even those who don't follow the international scene.

At 9 years old, he's pointed to Royal Ascot for the third year in a row.

He just won a(nother) G1 in Singapore, beating an international cast.

He has run and won at home, in Japan, at Royal Ascot and now in Singapore.

He tried but circumstances prevented him from running in HK (although he made the trip over).

17 wins from 33 starts, he's hit the board an additional 9 times (placed 5 times, show - 4 times). I believe he now has 6 G1 wins.

So my question is this... is Takeover Target a great?

Why, or why not?

I would say he is a great, just like John Henry. 33 starts is something you rarely see from this caliber of horse.

His been good in his level. But you know that your favorite horse beat him.

Hey Stormcat,
You must have a softspot for Collier Hill then? I thought what he did was pretty remarkable. Back to back grade 1's as a 8yr old

I love the old guys the best. :)

Again, that's subjective too. Everyone has their own definition, that's why there are 545435 threads about BB being great. It something that can only be decided by the person themselves.

I know I am great at doing that.
