Yep, they had moved to a Saturday opening last year, and maybe before that. Friday was the long time traditional opening. I thought it used to come around Memorial Day weekend though, not this early.

The "weekend" only racing is for May only (kind of the pre-Memorial day racing schedule). When they started, it was Saturday and Sunday only. The actual reason for the move to Friday is that they are contractually obligated to a certain # of race dates and needed to squeeze more in.

I never understood the extreme sensitivity and focus to race dates. It seems to hurt more than it helps.
