Longshot look at Hawthorne 4-24-08 9th race

This is not my strongest longshot angle but I do like a price in the last at Hawthorne.

I really believe #11 is begging for the grass and more ground. Now, the post and jockey are no bargain and Chen can find a way to lose on this one. (However, he did win the 6th on a 17-1 shot). He will likely go off at around 25-1 and might surprise in a wide open race.

Sire, Zagor, was a very, very good turf runner and relatively new sire.

Potential???

Be sure to watch the replay of this race.........Zagamor breaks nicely but gets carried into the parking lot on the first turn, comes back to be 4th-5th going into the far turn then comes up empty. Appeared to be pretty comfortable on the lawn. Just might be a bet back.

I didn't get to watch the headon, as HAW doesn't feel it's necessary for my official HAW racing experience to do so, BUT, I'm not certain from the pan shot that this horse was carried out on the 1st turn rather than just blowing it.

Oh, and, as best as I can determine, the horse that allegedly carried him out, the 9, finished about 12 lengths ahead of him.

Stranger things have happened, however, and I'll be sure to load up on this one next out at > 20:1.

P.S. that course is well on its way to looking like the FG course did late in this year's season; water shortage in the midwest?

Arlington opens in a week, I don't know why they even bother with the spring turf at Hawthorne.

Especially this year, there was an article about it in the DRF how Miller was trying to get what he can. Turf racing actually gets horses to enter.

Upon further review, I think it was a combination of being carried a little and also blowing the turn. Jockey did have a hard time getting him back into the race. Still will be interested in seeing how it goes next time.
