Prairie Meadows Early Pick 4 (Tue 4-22)-- Low pay?

Prairie Meadows early pick 4:

So, I'm alive to two horses in the early pick 4 on Tuesday, 4-22. I played the following ticket:

2nd: 3,5,6,7
3rd: 2,4,5,6
4th: 5
5th: 1 (ML 6-1),7 (ML 8-5)

Results going into race 5:
2nd: 3 won it at 23-1(ML of 8-1) (longest shot in the field)
3rd: 5 won it at 7-2 (ML of 7-2) (beat an 8-5 and 5-2)
4th: 5 won it at 3-1 (ML of 10-1) (bet down from 10-1 morning line and beat a 9-5)

I was expecting a pretty big payoff considering there is almost $7,000 in the pool.

Payoffs are:
1: $920
2: SCR
3: 3 of 4 payoff
4: 3 of 4 payoff
5: 3 of 4 payoff
6: 3 of 4 payoff
7: $728

These are $1 payoffs and I have it for $1.00. Do you feel this is a pretty low payoff for the 2 horses I have, considering the rest are 3 of 4 payoffs?

Feeling a bit ripped off

There's probably no money in the pool

The #7 won the last leg at 2-5 so, all in all, not the worst payoff with a 2-5 in the sequence but I've seen those kind pay 3 of 4 sooooo many times.

There were only 2 horses paying 4 out of 4, no one played any other combinations except with those 2 horses. That's why the payoff was smaller than you might expect.

You know, it sounds a lot like Hawthorne. I stopped playing their pick-4 this year because it was just too random.

You could hit on a sequence with a 10-1, 5-2, 20-1, and 6-1 winner and it'd pay $1,250.

Then you could sit the next sequence out and watch a 7-2, 3-1, 8-5, and 9/2 shot pay $1,500.

It was maddening, it's so incredibly random just based on who managed to punch what numbers.

Man you couldn't be more right with this assesment. About two years ago, I played a pick 4 at Hawthorne and I hit with odds something like this....

5-1, 7-2, 8-1 and I singled a 6-1 morning line in the last leg. There were only TWO 6-1 morning line horses and I was torn between both. The payoff to the one I singled was about $800 which was THE LOWEST PAYOUT. The other 6-1? That payoff was $14,000 and, of course, IT WON. And, if that wasn't a kick in the teeth enough... my horse went off at 5-1 and the winner went off at 9-2.
