Atoned, Behindatthebar bring Lex to 8

Dogwood/Pletcher confirm Atoned to Lexington.. and Behindatthebar a go as well.

LEXINGTON

(indicates needed finish for Derby entry)

1. $195k
2. $65k
3. $32.5k

Tomcito (3rd or better)
Atoned (2nd assures Derby; 3rd improves position greatly)
Racecar Rhapsody (Win only)
Samba Rooster (Win only)
Behindatthebar (Win only)
Big Glen (Win only)
Salute the Sarge (Not necessarily Derby-intended; Already enough earnings)
Red Sandy (?)

AeWingnut 04-14-2008 12:22 PM

how much is the Lexington purse? Will place money get Tomcito in the Derby?

jcs11204 04-14-2008 12:33 PM

For Big Glen and Samba Rooster there is a very slim chance that a win might not be enough. The rest are in with a win for sure. Tomcito is in with a second place finish. Atoned should be in with a second place finish but not definitely. Salute the Sarge is in no matter what he does if they want to run him.

Is Salute the Sarge still on the derby trail? Steve's updated graded earnings list (Thanks for doing that, Steve) has him in what would be 14th on the list, but there is an X next to his name. Is he definitely pointed towards the Derby? That would bump Dennis of Cork from 20th and put Bob Black Jack and Visionaire on the bubble, pending the results of the Lexington. I think a show would put Tomcito in the Derby, plus the winner and possibly the place horse. That would burst the bubble for the two aforementioned colts.

I think a win (Steve has $195K for 1st) puts that horse in the Derby, if they should want to go.

If Steve's list is right, and I assume it is, shouldn't Tomcito only need to run third or better to get in?

You're right. I meant to say show, typed place. I'm at work and can't give my full attention to DerbyTrail. Corrected.

Not if Salute the Sarge, Eight Belles, and Anak Nakal wind up going.

Kasept 04-14-2008 01:17 PM

Behindatthebar confirmed now too.. AND.. if he should win, and Atoned run 2nd... Todd Pletcher would suddenly have 4 Derby starters..

Steve's list has Eight Belles going, but Proud Spell as one of those mysterious "X" horses. I guess we won't know for sure until they draw the numbers for post positions.

Basically a win in the Lexington even for those two would more than likely get them in but there is no guarantee. Right now Cowboy Cal is the last in the list that is guaranteed to get in. The rest could be bumped under a worst case scenario.

The horses with (X) are positioned on the list to run in the Derby if they care to but are not committed and leaning against...

When they hit the far turn of the Blue Grass I said to my friend how we couldn't have a Kentucky Derby without Pletcher having some live runners.

lemoncrush 04-14-2008 02:01 PM

I recall reading that Big Glen was not Triple Crown nominated (edit- I just checked and he was a late nominee).

Also, is there any chance that Adriano runs in the Lexington, or is he training straight to the derby?

Mike 04-14-2008 02:12 PM

Looks like a nice Lexington

I just think the synth track debacle leads one to question the mainly West Coast contingent. The other factor of so many speed horses compromising the chances of Big Brown and last years champ, War Pass, that I'm still looking\

I'm still looking
