From SA barn notes.....

WAKE UP MAGGIE WORKING WELL FOR U.S DEBUT IN LAS CIENEGAS

If Wake Up Maggie runs to her works, the Irish-bred mare should make her presence felt in her United States debut Sunday in the Grade III Las Cienegas Handicap for older fillies and mares at about 6 ½ furlongs on turf.

The 5-year-old daughter of Xaar, trained by Julio Canani, has not raced since last October at Newmarket, but she has four bullet drills from her last six published workouts at Santa Anita.

“I’ve got a lot of confidence in her,” said Tyler Baze, who has worked her several times and who rides her Sunday. “She can really run. I’ve worked her three or four times now and she’s been working phenomenal. As Forrest Gump says, we’re like peas and carrots. Seriously, she’s a really nice filly. She can run.”

The 25-year-old Baze, who is the first cousin of fellow rider Michael Baze, is delighted with an upsurge that has placed him third in the standings with 47 wins through Thursday. “The meet’s going awesome,” Tyler said. “I appreciate the support I’ve received from Mike Mitchell and Jeff Mullins, my agent, Ron Ebanks, and all the people who have stayed with me.”

Wake Up Maggie has a 4-5-1 record from 15 starts, with earnings of $470,204 for owner Hubert Guy of Pasadena, who races as Bloodstock Management Services, Inc.

The field for the 34th running of the Las Cienegas, which will be televised live on HRTV: Stormin Mon, Jose Valdivia Jr., 114; Bahama Mama, David Flores, 116; Macadamia, Joel Rosario, 113; Pat the Cool Cat, Mike Smith, 114; Red Diadem, Victor Espinoza, 115; Lightmyfirebaby, Alex Solis, 116; Wake Up Maggie, Tyler Baze, 119; Super Freaky, Corey Nakatani, 116; Good Mood, Michael Baze, 115; Ingrid the Gambler, Joe Talamo, 114; Justice Is Brief, Martin Pedroza, 111; and Shermeen, Rafael Bejarano, 115.
