Tampa Just Cancelled

I've been going to Tampa for over 20 years (and sat through some vicious thunderstorms) and this is the first cancellation in the middle of a card that I have seen. The main track can hold a ton of water and drains quite well because it is very sandy.

Tampa has now joined the rest of the Thoroughbred world....

Just saw the postscript on the local news.

Tampa - 2.01"
Clearwater - 2.18" (The two cities that bracket Oldsmar)

ALL DAY. Ridiculous cancellation for a track that prides itself on handling water.

rain is one thing
lightning is another

maybe that is why
but you would know

Calder deals with worse, all summer long.

It's just a disappointing trend. Would Aqueduct have cancelled Friday's card on Thursday 10 years (or more) ago? Then again, with the glut of racing, maybe it's good to have cancellations.

Tampa is down to a handful of dates until December '08, I just hate to see one of the remaining weekend days get cancelled mid-card.
