Racing Post ratings

OK, we've been told to adjust Racing Post ratings down around 12-13 points or so for route races for older horses to get a Beyer equivalent.

One problem: they clearly don't use the Beyer beaten lengths chart. Take a look at the Godolphin Mile. The top three finishers from the race that Blackat Blackitten won are all running tomorrow.

Blackat Blackitten (race winner) Racing Post rating 113+
Golden Arrow, 2nd beaten 3/4 of a length; Racing Post rating 106
Halkin, finished 3rd beaten 2 lengths, Racing Post rating of 97

We know they don't factor pace into races.....hell they don't even show fractional times. Are they adjusting for trip? I had never heard that they did. But outside of an EXTREMELY wide trip by Blackat Blackitten and a ground saving trip by Halkin, I don't see how two horses 2 lengths apart could finish 16 points apart.

Racing Posts aren't even speed figs. . . I think weight is factored in but not sure what else. . .

Blackcat Blackitten was conceding 4 lb to Golden Arrow, so 0.75 length should equate to a difference of 5 lb between the two. Guess the Post have just given BB a couple of extra on account of the fact that the margin of success underplayed his superiority. The fact that he failed to justify that extra 2 lb next time suggests he should be rated on the bare form of that success (115 in the case of Timeform).
