Am I forgetting something here or am I right in thinking nothing will get within five lengths of Curlin here. I just can't see any obvious reason why anything else can beat him.

Jalil is still unexposed on dirt, and open to improvement, but we don't know how much. I would be surprised if he was good enough. The same can be said about Happy Boy.

Last year's Premium Tap could have been right there. After his last race though I'm not sure he's anywhere near last year's Premium Tap.

Yeah, before his last run I thought it could be a pretty decent match up between the two, but after than sub standard performance I'm starting to wonder if Premium Tap might be past the big time now, maybe?

I love Curlin, but it's rather disappointing that this race is likely to become a one horse race in the final stages.

ArlJim78 03-27-2008 12:00 AM

I have no confidence in Premium Tap this year.
The only thing I can say in terms of a threat to Curlin is that I would not totally discount Vermilions chances. I realize he threw a clunker last year in this race, but it was so bad it might be wise to just throw out the effort.

Since then he's been flawless in Gr1's including a really strong performance in the Japan Cup, a tough race over a demanding track.

I'll be using him as the key exotics horse underneath Curlin, and perhaps also on top.

brockguy 03-27-2008 08:11 AM

i like Vermilion as well to be best of the rest.. looks to be a better horse than last year (same cant be said for Premium Tap) and his prep went according to plan.. he's 6-1 without curlin in the race which is quite attractive.

As impressive as Jalil has been this year, it'll be his 4th run since the 2nd week in February against the toughest field he'll have faced. I just cant have him at half the odds of Vermilion..

thanks i ****ed myself again, i was between premium tap and asiatic boy. WHo i said was the only horse who had a shot of beating curling..

NoChanceToDance 03-29-2008 02:29 PM

He's just a monster. The way he quickened from them was so impressive. Does anyone know if he beat Dubai Millennium's track record today?

Curlin ran the third fastest DWC and he certainly was the "Man in Command". His acceleration was breathtaking. My heart went out to Premium Tap. What a sad day for a horse that is/was so gifted.

ELA 03-29-2008 10:08 PM

Very impressive. I don't look at track record or not at all -- not here. That was just an impressive race. I figured from that spot, with the way the track is configured he could end up getting hung out wide the entire way.

I also liked how the connections took the unorthodox route to the World Cup -- shipping early, getting a prep (first start back), etc. I don't know if it was planned exactly that way from the beginning, but it was an excellent move.

A very, very nice horse. I am really looking forward to seeing him the rest of the year. I hope he comes back to the US fit, sound, and 100% healthy.

Eric
