Question for Cannon Shell

Chuck, Do you have any experience with the "tie-forward" surgery for horses who displace? We've got a filly who keeps displacing badly. They say she has a flacid epiglotis. One vet is recommending the tie-forward surgery. Other people tell me that the tie-forward surgery doesn't work. I don't know what to believe. What have you heard about it? Have any of your horses had the procedure?

I have not done it and have heard conflicting opinions also. Have/can you use a cornell collar? They do seem to help horses that displace.

We wanted to use a cornell collar but they are illegal in the state where she is racing. I probably need to find out what states they are legal in. We could ship her to a state where she can run with one and see if it helps. If it doesn't help then we could still do the surgery as a last resort.

It is typical of horse racing not to allow a piece of equipment, that may actually help horses, for no good reason. Arkansas doesnt allow them either and I have a horse that wont run there again because of it.
