NYRA unaffected, VLT op slowed by Spitzer departure
Spitzer resignation has 2 trade journal interpretations online in the last hour... One is from Karen Johnson of Blood-Horse and addresses NYRA specifically, and the other is from Paul Post for Thoroughbred Times and focuses on the selection of the VLT operator for AQU.
NYRA: Little Impact From Resignation by Karen M. Johnson http://news.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=44035 With the March 12 announcement of the resignation of New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer effective March 17, officials at the New York Racing Association said they don’t anticipate his resignation would affect recent legislation that grants NYRA a new franchise. Spitzer resignation leaves New York racing industry in limbo by Paul Post http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/nat...-in-limbo.aspx New York Governor Eliot Spitzer resigned on Wednesday, and now New York’s horsemen and breeders are faced with the possibility of losing millions of dollars. The state’s Thoroughbred industry could encounter procedural slowdowns stemming from Spitzer’s alleged involvement in a prostitution scandal. |

Why did he spend so much per ho? From what I can see,the guy got caught because he was paying so much.He was sending so much money to a business that doesn't make anything that they got interested at the bank, and turned him in.I imagine he thought if he spent a lot for it,then he would have a better chance to keep it quiet. Is this why they call these places HOTELS?

I would say $4800 is appropriate. One thing about Spitzer, he has good taste. |
Surprise, surprise: the name "Client Number Nine" has already been claimed with The Jockey Club - for a weanling NY-bred (Cuvee - Clay's Shirky by Deputy Commander).

What Does Hookergate Mean For Racing? "Ironically, the shepherding of pending racing legislation through the legislative gauntlet would fall to Sen. Joe Bruno, the senate majority leader who was the principal obstructionist throughout the process and in an ironic twist that almost qualifies as the blackest of humor, would, upon Spitzer’s resignation, become first in line of succession to Paterson." http://paulmoranattheraces.blogspot....or-racing.html |
