SIMPLE, EFFECTIVE, ACCURATE, and FREE

Anyone else tired of the FLAWED Equibase (and its disseminators) data can look for inspiration on the Hong Kong Jockey Club site.

I give you the Race Running Position Photo (middle of page to the right): gives the position of EACH horse at EACH call. Uber accurate. Incredibly effective. Equibase, on the other hand, feels the need to get its data out QUICKLY, and doesn't let < 90% or so (on a good day) accuracy get in the way.

US data providers either need to do all they can to ensure the accuracy of their data or give it away for free. Personally, makes no sense to pay for flawed data.

On the other hand, over in Hong Kong, you not only get accurate data, in terms of these photos, trip notes, full PPs for horses, replays, etc. but it's all FREE. Guess they want to encourage betting over there.

Eventually, in an increasingly electronic world, I predict that quite a few of us will become regulars over in HKG. US racing keeps taking backward steps by not keeping up with technology and feeling the need to bleed its customers dry with all these incidental expenses. Good luck with that.

you get it in France too..

as many have said here before, Hong Kong racing is the best product in the world - good quality racing, huge pools etc. Time difference isnt so good though..

Free is probably the most powerful word and concept in the marketing/business world.

If they would only let us bet into their pools.

I would only wager on HK races.

It'll happen eventually. At this point in time, the only ones even close to getting it in the US are the KEE group. Their racing is top quality, their video impeccable, and they've gone to lengths to ensure the accuracy of their data (unfortunately at a cost.)

I see poorly run tracks closing down or being taken over by better management teams. There's no excuse for a track not offering online video or data of its races. And, certainly, inconsistent timing of races, the GP specialty, is a flat out embarrassment. As are the PARTIAL headon replays over at SA. (Saving on tape, are we?)

As the print DRF crowd is eventually weeded out, and those expecting accuracy as well as a high level of technology move in, the US tracks are either going to have to catch up or get toasted, as they lose customers to HKG and others. There also won't much use for parasites like Equibase.

I've been in a room with equibase chart callers calling a race as it is in progress.

They screw up a lot more often than most people think - but - if you watch them at work - you will actually be amazed that they don't screw up a lot more often than they actually do.

You surely can. I just haven't had the nerve to drive up there from Kentucky yet.
