happened again, horse hit and killed on Versailles Rd.

the streets of Kentucky are not safe for roaming ponies:rolleyes:

seriously though, I'm amazed that more horses are not hit by cars around here....so many are housed outside all the time along major roadways with minimal fencing.

:( sad

that road is a 4 lane highway....near Keeneland it is 6 lanes. One does not expect to see a horse on it.... I would say that the human error here is the person who either didn't maintain the fencing or somehow let them out of a barn, not the driver of the vehicle.

That's who I was talking about. The owners should be more careful with their horses/animals.

Perhaps they should install polytrack on the highway.

Good idea CM if the highway was polytrack, horse fatalities would be reduced. There coud be drainage problems after heavy precipitation though.

The only farm I know of "close to Keeneland on Versailles Rd" is Calumet. We know their story...

One other account said the horses came from a farm west of Keeneland.

there were either 3 or 4 horses loose, depending on who's site you read.

http://www.lex18.com/Global/story.as...04072&nav=EQlp "The other three horses were not hurt and were re-captured."

http://www.wtvq.com/midatlantic/tvq/...2-21-0002.html "One Of Three Loose Horses Hit And Killed"

I checked my Lexington Chamber farm map and it shows 5 farms off Rice Road (just west of Kee) that they could have conceivably come from.

It's a shame, but fortunately the others made it out safely.

paisjpq 02-22-2008 10:14 AM

I highly doubt they came from Calumet....there are a number of small farms around that area where they could be from.
