what a surprise: FG is OFF the TURF again

They really need to give it up down there.

Of course, they did run on turf the other day with those real interesting races, where just about the entire fields hadn't turfed before. I mean, there have been some very interesting races carded there.

Here's a suggestion: rip the grass out and don't offer turf racing. Will save alot of people alot of time.

it may have been done as a favor its supposed to dump rain and thunder about 2 pm

the_fat_man 01-31-2008 11:42 AM

I realize there are days that races must come off the turf but unless we're in the tropics and it's rainy season, I don't see why they need to cancel as much as they've been.

Here's a suggestion: If you feel like you're wasting your time, don't cap the turf races.

It's been a consistent rainy mess in New Orleans lately, which should surprise just about nobody. It seems to be finally clearing up.

Fairgrounds has some excellent turf racing throughout their meet. This concept is like saying that they should just cancel all racing in New Orleans all the time because it might rain-- after all, cappers are wasting their time capping if the track turns out sloppy and they have to readjust and horsemen are wasting their time because their horses may or may not like the mud.

Do you get this indignant when the main track comes up wet?

your right some days they should go..been lucky at gs last few days.. fast n firm 3 days in a row

They've cancelled just about every turf race for the past 2 weeks. The only day they kept on had just about the worst turf races you could want. And, the turf didn't look bad at all that day.

Why not be more selective and keep the BETTER races on SINCE the turf is usable. One or so every couple of days would make sense. This is typically what the 'BIG TRACKS' do.

Logic escape you?

Maybe, and I say just maybe, they cancel turf racing on the days when they feel the turf is not in proper shape and/or is not safe for racing, instead of when they have low class races scheduled on the turf. However, without a strong background in track maintenance, I am unable to definitively say whether or not class of racing carded should be the overriding factor in deciding when to take races off the turf, as you seem more than qualified to say.

After the weather there the last two weeks, I'm more than happy to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Just thinking out loud here.

We are sub-tropical and it is the rainy season, winter is our rainy season.

You should check our weather before you cap the turf races they have predicted this storm since Monday. We have very severe storms coming in about 1 hour. I wouldn't be surprised if the later part of the card gets cancelled if it is as bad as it is supposed to be and comes in when it's supposed to. We're also under tornado warnings.

Here's some links to local weather

http://www.wdsu.com/index.html - this one has the better weather forecast.

My yard and fields are like walking on deep sponges when it rains, still haven't dried up since the last storms.

They've also cancelled Mardi Gras parades for this evening, but that doesn't mean we cancelled Mardi Gras.

Yet another tough beat. I spent two hours handicapping the parades last night.

Yikes.... that is tough, all that work.
OK beware then for Fat Tuesday calling for 50% chance of rain and warm.
What's the m/l someone will fall off a Zulu float?

Very OT here but I loved Amorres Perros, you mentioned it ages ago. Your very good at handicapping movies too. Have gotten the whole trilogy, just haven't watched 21 grams yet. Anymore movie suggestions?

blackthroatedwind 01-31-2008 12:55 PM

Recent movies I would recommend the Diving Bell and the Butterfly.....but it's tough topping Amores Perros.

Glad you liked it. Love's a bitch.

Now don't anyone let that get in your way of being unreasonably pissed off, but thanks for the warning.
