He looks to me like he is bred to run on turf. He is out of a Cozzene mare that has already produced a stakes winner on turf, and Honour and Glory (his sire) is by Relaunch and out of an Al Nasr mare.
A 7.5f, $43,000 allowance at Gulfstream seems to me like a rather odd prep for the UAE Derby.

Seems like as good a spot as any. He's a 4yo here but get to run as a 3yo in Dubai.

Did Invasor come to the US before he went to the UAE Derby? I know he didn't run here then, but was he here training before his first trip to Dubai?

gamblin4ever 01-07-2008 01:55 AM

I believe he did train in Fla for a little while.

I guess maybe they need to find out if he can run on dirt (?).

They have 4 nominated including Morador Llers (who won the Gran Criterium).

Word from the ERA is they'll send two.....

You might want to see how Quip ( another Shadwell private purchase ) does in today's 8th at Gulfstream as Mach Glory beat him by five lengths last March.

Thanks. That one I've never heard of.

Didn't see the race... how did Quip look?

It depends how you look at it. He finished second in what was a horrendous race. The winner is laughably bad and the third horse is a $50K claimer at best.

Mach Glory may be a good horse, I have no idea whatsoever, but he wasn't truly flattered by Quip's second today.

Yeah I saw that he was 2nd but didn't watch a replay or anything.....

You don't sound too impressed. THAT's what i wondered about.

Mach Glory also drowned Quip when they met in South America.

I noticed that.

I keep hearing 2 of the 4 will go (to the UAE Derby), but have no idea who the other two are. Do you?

blackthroatedwind 01-07-2008 07:06 PM

I don't know anything about these horses and nothing about Kiaran McKlaughlin's barn.

That was his only victory in 4 attempts on the main track. His two impressive performances came on the turf which - as I said earlier - seems to be the surface he is bred to run on.
Gold Trippi and Merchant Marine aren't bad at all for this level, and I think they will handle Mach Glory here.

blackthroatedwind 01-07-2008 07:21 PM

This might be a situation where logic is dangerous.....though on paper I agree with you.

my miss storm cat 01-25-2008 01:10 PM

Maybe this one will be a bit more impressive.....

Just a thought.....after Shadwell's incredible success with Invasor it feels like they are buying everything they can down there and hoping they get lucky. I'm not criticizing them, it may well prove money well spent, and they are obviously way ahead of the game, but it also should dampen your enthusiasm for every one of these horses that show up.

Good point.

As an aside, the Godolphin purchase, My Indy, is the one I think will be very very good.....

Looked good yesterday at NAS.

Almost as good as their purchase of Diabolical.

They're suckers as far as I'm concerned.

And don't forget they went to $15.9MM on The Green Monkey.
