Tejada to the Astros

Yet another monster in the NL Central for the Cubs to contend with

whodey17 12-12-2007 12:59 PM

The Astros need much much more than Tejada to be a contendar. I feel that they gave up way too much for him.

I agree with your first sentence. I dont with the second. They gave up some fringe players. There are no studs in the gruop. Scott is 30 and is at best a 4th outfielder type. Albers is very average. Troy may be the only one with star potential and that is a stretch. The Orioles didn't get anywhere near the top prospects the Marlins did (not that Tejada is worth it)

None of these guys are a top 100 prospect

If Baltimore ever gets to 85-90 wins again, it won't be on the account of more than one player from this deal that would help do it.

Houston defense weakens as they see Everett as being non-tendered. Still you still have to have players get on base to score runs. Bourn and Matsui are not really known to get there.

Tejada to the Astros ??..... Can he Pitch ???

I like this batting order!

Bourn
Pence
Berkman
Lee
Tejada
Wigginton
Matsui
Towles
Pitcher

As lifelong Astros fan, it is nice to see GM do SOMETHING about offense. Adam Everett is great guy, but banjo hitters belonged in Astrodome not Minute Maid Park. Finally, building offense for hitter's park.

Yes, pitching is important. Astros have had some great pitching staffs in their history. When your staff has 3.00 ERA and hitters only produce 2 runs per games. You lose more than you win. If 3.00 becomes 4.00 and 2 becomes 5. You will win more than you lose!

I will LOL if Tejada doesnt produce like the Astros think he can. Be funny to watch my Pirates beat the Astros for the season again. I can listen to the dum worthless fans as I leave Minute Maid proudly wearing my Pirates hat trying to me that my Pirates suck even though they start the season 2-0 which is a lot better the starting 0-2 where I come from. Shows the mentallity of the Astros fan base. What made it even better was that the Pirates swept the opening series of the year against the Astros, if im not mistaken didn't the Pirates also sweep the Astros the second series of the season between theses two teams. You Astros fans need a lot more than Tejada.

How many straight losing season do Pirates now have? FIFTEEN. In 2008, going for tie with hapless Phillies of 1930s and 1940s.

I guess winning a season series from Astros (or any other team) is like winning World Series for bottom-dwelling Bucs.

Never thought I would see an Astros vs. Pirates debate here....

very interesting

More like lineup is going to be:
Bourn
Matsui
Berkman/Pence
Lee/Berkman
Pence/Lee
Tejada
Wigginton
Towles
Oswalt - can't pitch every other day though.

".......and there's 2 outs to start the game for the 9th time in the last 10 games." Poor Berkman

Another cheater who will be outted this afternoon

NTamm1215 12-13-2007 10:25 AM

No matter what all the supposed experts have to say about the Astros, their lineup is significantly better now than it was at the start of the 2007 season. The pitching staff is a little shaky behind Oswalt, but he is a dominant #1.

I doubt the Astros make a big move for a pitcher, especially with the possibility of getting Jason Jennings back on the cheap.

Either way, there's something to be excited about when the Astros come to bat for the first time in a long time.
