Bobby P to the Hogs

Yes now we're getting somewhere on the search. Reported to be the Hogs New Head Coach.

packerbacker7964 12-11-2007 10:36 PM

What's everyone saying Danzig? Oh I'm ready to see how we do now in the Cotton Bowl for sure now.

Danzig 12-11-2007 11:45 PM

supposedly petrino got a big welcome. which is good, as his exit from atlanta is as classless as you can get.
maybe he'll take some of the attention away from a coach a bit further south.

i hope arkansas doesn't invest too much in petrino, who seemingly spends all his time looking for something better. i hope they fall flat on their face, after running off someone who got them further along in the last ten years then they had been in quite some time. and now they get someone who hasn't even got the spine to give his resignation in person. ugh.

Not that Petrino does not look like a weasel but DeAngelo Hall saying that they laid it all on the line for him and feel so betrayed is ironic to say the least. Hall is a first class dog, the ultimate "me first" athlete.

Just a quick question....Is Bobby P the same to football as Larry Brown is to basketball ?

i know that many atlanta players didn't like petrino, they're probably glad he's gone.
will the atlanta gm be next?

and petrino absolutely is a weasel. but then, he always has been. two, three years at the most at fayetteville. of course arkansas had a coach a few months ago that backed out the next day. petrino always looking around for another spot, whether it be weeks or months from now.

Danzig 12-12-2007 09:50 AM

petrinos career:

his four years with louisville is his longest time in any one spot. and he was looking for something better from day one while he was there.

Year Place Role
1983 Carroll Grad. asst.
1984 Weber St. Grad. asst.
1985-86 Carroll Off. coord./QB/WR
1987-88 Weber St. WR/TE coach
1989 Idaho QB coach
1990-91 Idaho Off. coord./QB
1992-93 Arizona St. QB coach
1994 Nevada Off. coord./QB
1995-97 Utah St. Off. coord./QB
1998 Louisville Off. coord./QB
1999-2000 Jacksonville (NFL) QB coach
2001 Jacksonville (NFL) Off. coord.
2002 Auburn Off. coord./QB
2003-2006 Louisville Head coach
2007 Atlanta (NFL) Head coach
2007 Arkansas Head coach

petrino signed a ten year contract with louisville. six months later he signed a five year deal with atlanta. now he has a five year deal with ark. 20 years worth of signing, on paper not worth anything more than something you could use to wipe your bum.

Danzig 12-12-2007 10:41 AM

and apparently he's been working this deal with arkansas for weeks, since nutt left. so not giving his full attention to the team he was supposed to be leading for weeks. would they be three and nine right now had they had their coaches full attention??

bobby petrino has brought weaselling to a new level.

MaTH716 12-12-2007 10:47 AM

Agreed that Petrino is a huge weasel, should have waited at until the season was over before he resigned. But, do you think he would have taken the job knowing that he would not have either Vick or Schaub and that Joey Harrington would be your starting QB?

Danzig 12-12-2007 10:57 AM

i just think the timing was odd, that they had already acknowledged they needed to go after a qb in the draft, and the owner said in the midst of the game monday that if the coach said give the new guy a year to work in, he was all for it. that he understood what was required, that next year would be a building year, and he was happy to have such a good coach running this team, and with him for the long haul. oops

it's just petrinos nature. if the team did really bad (which is what happened) he'd go elsewhere. if the team did really well, he'd be looking to make it work for him for the better--that worked so well for him at louisville. it's not blanks fault, or the gm, or the team, or what they could accomplish. it's petrinos character.

I'm sure Arkansas told him either come now or we are going in a different direction. And I'm pretty confident that Atlanta would suck regardless of the coaches attention being diverted. And I still find the most amusing part is DeAngelo Hall's comments since he is a grade 1 coach killer.

Cannon Shell 12-12-2007 01:23 PM

Petrino will win at Arkansas. Maybe not nat'l titles or annual BCS bowl games or what the Arky fans want, but he is a good college coach.

Exactly. If looking for a better deal were a crime, just about every coach and assistant in the country would be guilty. Not just in football either.

Reports are out there that Lane Kiffin was reportedly "pissed" that he didn't get hired as the head coach of Arkansas.

All this for Arkansas? There have been multiple reports that Kiffin isn't thrilled with being in Oakland. It could be one and done for him there also.
