Oh yeah! Don't get me wrong, I like LITF, but I'll be trying to figure out the best way to bet against him... Foggy will no doubt be too short of a price in a field like that. I'll probably try to beat him in a p-4

The number one observation that I initially made when reviewing these pps is that there are a TOn of horses with sharp early speed and the freakin' pace should be ridiculous in here - which could also hurt LITF's chances....very interesting heat..

With Too Much Bling and Dubai Escapade(a pair of chalky singles) running in the two races before the Smile Sprint, a big price is gonna have to come home in that race for a Pick 4 to pay very well.

with ten pounds in his favor I like wiegelia, though I root for LITF. Should be a great race.

It would be a real feather in the cap for Weigelia's trainer to win this race. He had such high expectations for Sweet Northern Saint who really pooped out in the big time races. He won the Illinois Derby but nobody really cares about that.

As Eminem said "You only get one shot, this opportunity only comes once, do not blow it."

Huh..? Beyond belief.. This is an all-timer, even from you Tim.

First of all, the "trainer' has a name.. It's Michael Trombetta.. And boy, running 2nd in the Preakness was a real embarassment.. And he had such a perfect trip in the Derby that it's a total failure for Saint and Mike that he didn't win. And he, Joe Balsalmo and Ted Theos were pretty pleased winning the Gr. II Illinois Derby.

Maybe you don't realize that Saint is a gelding and won't be retired in December, but he's got a whole career of races to run yet. And by way of news, look for Ramon Dominguez to return to the saddle in Saint's subsequent starts.

Trombetta has plenty of feathers in his cap INCLUDING taking a cast-off Wegielia and making him a stakes winner and track record holder..

I was the only one who correctly predicted ... ten days before the race ... that Lost In The Fog would fold like a cheap tent in the BC Sprint.

But this is a new year ... and he may have matured and improved ... or not.

This race will help us learn whether he is really a quality sprinter ... or just another cheap speed merchant ... who gets out of the kitchen when he feels the heat.

I lean toward the latter ... but would be pleasantly surprised if it were the former.

Absolutely terrific field. A few horses entered in there who I haven't heard anything from in a while (Chandtrue, B.B. Best). Should be a tremendous card.

Nice field. Got to respect LITF's owners. Giving 8-10 lbs to nice ones like Kelly's and Wiegelia, Nightmare Affair. I expect Nightmare Affair to hit the ticket at 12-15/1 in here.

I'd like to see Sweetnorthernsaint get a shot at the BC Classic.

As for the Calder race, Kelly's Landing ran a giant race in the Aristiades. Will be no surprise if he turns the tables on LITF.

Pomeroy is my choice.

ateamstupid 07-11-2006 09:46 AM

This is a great thread.

Tim completely butchering an Eminem lyric, Steve showing some rare emotion, and Dixie giving us the winner! Unbelievable. I'm tempted to stick it.

hoovesupsideyourhead 07-11-2006 10:09 AM

i like gaff in this spot....

LOL Joey! I knew somebody would catch that, you were 3/5 to be the one. Scuds was 8/5 but couldnt get it done!

I think it will be VERY Interesting to see what Lost in the Fog goes off at in this spot. I have never had real stong opinions on this horse either way (I don't think he is as good as some say he is, but I also don't think he is as overrated as other people claim). Something tells me that he might actually end up being the smart play in this race.
I think a LOT of people will be trying to beat him here because of the large field and the weight difference and you might end up getting fairly respectable odds for a horse with his record. Hard to say for sure, but depending on the post-time odds it might make sense to key him in exotics and single him in any multi-race bets.

Also....Steve is absolutely right. Winning the Illinois Derby and running 2nd in the Preakness is not all that shabby.
