New bet at CD

CD will be offering a new over/ under bet. Article in the Courier Journal explains it. Personally I would not bet it, but at least they are trying something new.

For attendance?

Oh, that's right, they don't announce that anymore.

So, they can't come up with a way to offer more than 23 individual betting interests for the KY Derby Future Wager, but they can offer over/unders?

Here is what the tote board will look like for this wager:

Under 4/5
On 20-1
Over 4/5

I really wish racing would try to capitalize on what it actually DOES offer as opposed to trying to immitate totally different gambling activities. Odds-on wagering opportunities aren't going to excite people.

...and people are getting PAID to come up with this garbage.

I agree that this is a lousy bet that is not for real horseplayers. One of racings many problems is that it does not develop new products for its real audience, the players.

....and I highly doubt that new fans will be psyched when they cheer home the 8-6-5 trifecta and cash their OVER bet for $3.80.

Can the ODD/EVEN wager be far behind?

Hoist Her Flag 10-21-2007 05:35 PM

Yes more than 23 horses

Justin hit the nail on the head. We're stuff with 23 lousy horses in the futures pool and they make up this stuff. They said they were going to make changes this year. Let's hope they do.

Brilliant innovation.....

This may be the single dumbest idea they have come up with yet.

I think most people would agree with me that Tom Aronson needs to be flogged to death.

It's all about dumbing down the bets to appeal to slots players. Next thing you know you'll be able to bet silks colors too... I'll take flamingo pink for a Benjamin

I wonder how the Keeneland superfecta "quick pick" has been doing? I haven't seen it emphasized at the track (in the programs, etc) I wonder if the casual betting folks even know it exists?

i wonder if any track has ever considered a 'box pick six' where the six numbers of the winners can come in in any order? that probably wouldn't go over well either tho...
