Poor Taste ESPN

The comments about calling the County Jail and asking if they had ESPN and then following it up with the comment about how important their one phone call would be today was poor taste.

This is in reference to the Curlin connections obviously. Very poor taste and I am shocked that they, the group that was calling this race, showed that side on the air. Very bush league and did not do the industry any favors when it comes to image.

I respectfully disagree. It was refreshing to see people connected to the sport say what they really think for a change, unafraid to possibly upset someone. When I was writing for KentuckyDerby.com, I spoke to a well-known retired jockey for 1/2 hour about the Derby field. I asked him which horse he would choose to ride if given the chance, and he said "Street Sense. No doubt." I asked him if I could print that, and he said "Oh no. No no no no. I don't want to get in trouble." Then he said, "In fact, it's probably best if you don't write any of this."

its not professional and has no place. not all of Curlins owners are in jail.

And does not need this kinda bush league race calling. Talk about the race, the Breeders Cup, anything but this kinda childish crap that is lower then low.
I understand what they are charged with but it had no place in the broadcast today, none. Especially with the way it was said.

ESPN should be banned. How dare they make fun of swindling whores?

fpsoxfan 09-30-2007 05:13 PM

I wonder if they found out their horse won. "Hey Red I understand you are a man who knows how to get things. Can you get me a Youbet account in cell block 14?"

sumitas 09-30-2007 05:17 PM

Please, ESPN made it clear the 2 scoundrels in jail are 20% owners of Curlin. I did not see a thing wrong with it, imo.

Danzig 09-30-2007 06:19 PM

and it's been mentioned elsewhere that the reason curlin has no stud deal, unlike the other 'big' colts, is because of those two yahoos.
so they mentioned where two of his owners are--so what? espn shouldn't be embarrassed about it, the two crooks should. it's a shame that curlin is with the group he's with, he's a sweet horse who doesn't get much press compared to the others because of his crappy connections.

Fearless Leader 09-30-2007 06:31 PM

If ESPN had any decency, they would have set up a live 2-way feed so the owners could watch and then be in the "virtual winners circle" in the visitors room. It would have been very classy for Randy Moss to interview the managing owners of Curlin via CELL phone.

It's ESPN... for christ sake!

Would you expect anything different with them?

Two days of Breeder's Cup coverage with them ought be a treat!

take any creative endeavour and tell the participants not to offend anyone.

what you get is 98% of what's on tv.

i'm really sorry i missed one of the exceptions.

I dont either, awwww they got their feelings hurt? poor them, I just cant seem to pull up any real sympanthy for them, I think I will save that for the people they screwed over for millions.

blackthroatedwind 09-30-2007 07:58 PM

If you want to complain about something you should complain about them making light of a situation where people were defrauded out of millions of dollars. I'm sorry for the victims....not the perpetrators of the crime.

Me neither. In fact I doubt their feelings were hurt considering they probably had none in the first place. Not to mention they couldn't see the feed from ESPN. After all....it IS jail and SOME "privledges" should be held back anyway.

i'm no supporter of those two for sure, just look in esoteric. we can laugh at them and we do, ON HERe. i'm not saying they're fine people or that we shouldn't have a laugh and i have no sympathy for them. i just thought that it wasn't the right place for it.
why don't they have a laugh and make fun of every trainer whose served a drug violation? anyone with a substance abuse issue that we don't know about? how about reviewing court documents to see if they can dig up dirt on any and all owners that had starters today? lets have some jokes on those people as well. not every show has to follow the TMZ format.

OOOOOOOOOO

as a huge Met fan, I'm glad I chose to avoid the TV's that had it on today.

If they want to make light of something bad about Curlin, how about the fact that he's trained by a guy who has had 25 drug suspensions???
