Star filly lands Turkish Derby for Classic treble

Veliefendi (Istanbul): Gazi Derby (Group 1) 1m4f, turf, 3yo

TURKEY'S 1,000 Guineas and Oaks winner Mystical Storm (H Nusret Derre/Selim Kaya) completed a Group 1 hat-trick when taking on the colts in the 22-runner Gazi Derby.

Tackling 1m4f for the first time, she overcame the widest draw and won by a length and the same from Akdeniz Atesi and Smerc.

A daughter of US-bred Unaccounted, Mystical Storm collected a first prize of about 750,000 Turkish lira - about £315,000.

Erhan Yavuz, who was her jockey in the Guineas-Oaks double, rode the unplaced Roman Empire.

Consolidating her position as the top filly in Turkey, with six wins from her last seven races, Mystical Storm has put herself in line for the national Triple Crown, which she would complete if she won the St Leger (Ankara Kosusu) at Ankara on September 28.
