Oden likely out for season

Looks like Greg Oden is probaby out for the entire season. Torn cartilage looks to end his season now after surgery.

Sucks for the Trailblazers...

Not really, cause now they'll wind up with another lottery pick next year and have two studs to build around. Could be a blessing like the year the Spurs lost Robinson for the year just to score Duncan.

Well it looks like he's on his way to being the biggest bust since Sam Bowie.

.....but he's richer than Sam:eek:

Didn't think about that. I think he still has a bright future ahead of him...

The glass half-full theory?

That's actually a pretty good way of looking at it. I wouldn't have thought of that.

U have to think this is just an unfortunate franchise. Look what happened with their other really high franchise center draft picks in Bill Walton, Mychael Thompson and Sam Bowie.

That surgery on that particular injury has advanced quite a bit. He is only 19 despite looking 45 and I see no reason he still can't be an effective player for them for many years. I don't think he was every going to revolutionize the position, but he still has a future I believe.

He's young but then so was Amare Stoudamire. The difference between Stoudamire and Oden is that so much of Stoudamire's game was based on his explosive athletic ability. Even though he has come back and is able to play at all-star level, he admits that he's still not quite as explosive as before and it took him longer to get back to where he is than he thought. Oden's game is not so explosive and athletic so taking a percentage of that away from him may not hurt him as much. The problem with him is that this is seemingly the latest thing in what is looking like a series of problems. If he's got arthritic knees already, that's not a good sign. I remember early this summer when he was backing out of things, citing exhaution. I didn't think it was humanly possible to be exhausted at 19. There are some things not right with this kid and if I was the Blazers, I'd be very concerned.

Oden hopefully will recover and bring some defense to a team who really needs some help down low. Randolph was a scorer, but a horrible defender. Oden could be a significant menace in the middle for a long time.

I hope he recovers to show his rebounding and defensive abililty. He will be fun to watch for me. Amare, Phoenix can keep him. Playoffs start and a new game emerges they cant handle.
