Had 183 receiving yards in his Pats debut today.

And the Jets really should have been thankful that it wasn't the same version of Super Freaky-ness that lined up for Marshall with the double eights on his jersey in the late 90's.

A sight for sore eyes if there ever was one......




Anyone who didn't get to see Randy Moss play college football missed a lot. He was the most impressive college player I've ever seen - and by a gigantic margin.

He not only was good enough to start in the NFL when he played as a freshman at Marshall - but I steadfastly believe he would have been clearly the best reciever in the NFL, at age 18, had he been allowed to join the leauge out of high school.

Nice to see their is still a little juice left in those fragile and injury plagued legs.

He's definitely one of the most talented receivers of all time. It's a shame that he's so stubborn. Could've been the greatest.

I've said from the start of his career that he was a monster. He's among the most physically gifted athletes I've ever seen. He does things so effortlessly that u feel that he's not even trying. Over the past couple of years, he probably hasn't been although, playing for the Raiders, u almost can't blame him. I mean, who wants to kill themselves going all out for that sorry bunch? I know all about how he's paid to be a professional whether it's the Raiders or the Pats but let's be real here. It was the Raiders.

Have u seen the dude play basketball? I know he was good enough to make All-State (I know, not a big deal in West Virginia) in high school. He may have even been the state player of the year, even though Jason Williams (Miami Heat) was there also. Those two were teammates and watching Williams throw lobs to Moss then was just like watching Culpepper and Cunningham throw them to him in the NFL.

What a lot of people don't remember is that before Randy was playing for Marshall, he was on the campus of Florida State and at Notre Dame and the coaches at BOTH schools said the same thing......that he was the best athlete to ever come there.

I don't know if he was the greatest college player I've seen though. Michael Vick might still hold that title for me. But I agree with u that he was well ahead of his level even then and could have probably starred in the NFL as an 18yo. I also don't know if he could have been the greatest of all-time either. Jerry Rice set that bar pretty damn high. As it is though, I rank him as the second-best receiver I've ever seen in the NFL. Jerry was more steady and consistent but as far as big play capability, Moss is second to none.

Most impressive college player that I have seen in person was Deion Sanders.

Most impressive ever...Barry Sanders...with a very mediocre OSU line blocking for him.

Cornelius Bennett and Derrick Thomas and (Tide fans forgive me) Bo Jackson.

In the late 70's I lived in Houston for a year. Saw Oklahoma play Rice. Billy Sims got about 150 yards in the first quarter. He spent the 2nd quarter signing autographs in the stands. He's as good as I ever saw in college.

Moss was like the modern day Jim Thorpe. Like Pillow said, stubborness, spending time in jail, getting kicked off of college teams etc. set him back.

He was recruited by Lou Holtz to play for Notre Dame. Holtz had repeatedly said publicly "he's the best high school football player I've ever seen."

He beat someone down in a high school brawl and lost the Notre Dame scholarship. He went to Florida State, but failed a drug test while on probation, and had to spend 90 days in jail and was kicked off of the team.

That's how he ended up at Marshall. Where he caught an insane 54 TD's in just two seasons...and was such an explosive kick returner that the award for College Football's best punt and kickoff returner is now named for him.

He played on the same high school basketball team as Jason Williams - who was 2nd in the NBA's rookie of the year voting. Moss was the states "Mr. Basketball" twice and was considered a better player than his teammate.

Moss was an awesome track and field sprinter. Jeff Small said that he was better than anyone he'd ever seen including Carl Lewis and Micheal Johnson.

However, a lot of people believed that baseball was actually his best sport. He supposedly looked like a sure thing future MLB star center fielder before he quit baseball.

watched him in detroit for years and have never seen anything like him before or since. it was comical watching someone trying to tackle him in the open field.

I don't remembher who it was against but I remember one guy trying to open-field tackle Sims and Billy kicked him in the chest. He was great.

I'm not taking anything away from the performance by Moss yesterday, but the Patriots were stealing signs.

I am a Jets fan. I usually go to 3 or 4 games a year. Obviously, I hate the Patriots. BB has always been a thorn in the Jets side. That being said, I also believe that even if the Patriots were stealing signs yeterday, the Jets fans were the biggest losers of the day. They were cheering when Chad Pennington limped off of the field which is an utter disgrace. Chad Pennington is certainly not a top of the line QB, but he has done nothing but win with the Jets & he sure as hell did not deserve that.

Since you were at the game I trust that you had a better ear to what was going on. The only reason I assume that they were cheering as Pennington went off was because I litsen to Jets fans calling WFAN all the time saying how much Pennington sucks. Do these people not remember the QB's we had in the past? Pennington has been great for the Jets. He plays with guts & smarts.
