Biggest winning margin you've seen at the track

Today I saw a horse (and I thought it was a pretty average one too, only 1 win in 6 starts before today  ) called Waicou Wasp destroy a field by 14 lengths. Was obviously not a strong field, but still impressive to watch.

With a really massive win like that seeing the race on TV really doesn't do it justice, you have to be there to see how big the distance is between the winner and the rest of the field.

Just wondering what the biggest margin you guys have seen when you've been at the track is.

In stake races, a bunch of Belmont winners....Risen Star (15), Bet Twice(14), Conquistador (14).

"Here comes bunny" has an absoluetly massive lead and won by half the stretch, then stoped on the back side and all the dogs caught up to her. Then it happened again, and again, and....

I was at the Wood Memorial in '05. I don't remember exactly how many lengths Bellamy Road won by that day, but off the top of my head, I think that was probably the biggest margin of victory I have seen in person.

Was there myself, think it was 16 and it was VERY impressive.

Years ago we had a QH that was AAA at every distance on the track and he loved the 870yd races. He won a stake at Delta Downs by 10lengts. Not to bad for a QH race.

Yep, same here...Secretariat in the 73 Belmont! Risen Star's Belmont romp was impressive as well as he did it despite an abscessed hoof.

That is a colossal margin of victory for a Quarterhorse.

Congrats on that win!

Thanks and yes he was moving like a tremendous machine. He was special. He was Triple AAA, at every distance. Which in QH racing, AAA, is the highest speed index a horse can get. He won the 870 stake that day, and we found out that he had bred 2 mares that morning. A guy at the stud barn didnt bother to follow instructions that he not be bred 2 days before a race. Some ole cajun guy, walks up to us as they are loading in the gates and says that he and his buddy had their mare bred to him this morning. My mom and I looked at each other and said "Hes gotta be drunk".lol But we found out later that he was right (even though he was drunk, hehe). We were pissed but when you win like that,,,,it makes it alittle easier to swallow. :D

Unbelievable timing of this topic. Labor Day at Ellis Park Sir Dorset wins a two and one fourth mile event by 40 1/2 lengths. Not quite the '73 Belmont, but interesting none the less.

There was a paint race at FMT last year that the horse won a 350 yard race by 8 lengths. That was impressive.

KirisClown 09-05-2007 03:34 PM

Flanders winning the 94 Frizette by 21 lths...

Swap Fliparoo 09-05-2007 04:21 PM

Too Much Bling won as a 2yo (MSW at Thistle) by 19 1/2 lengths - going only 5.5f!

Just the other day.....Costa Rising was given a 117 BSF for a 17 1/2-length romp in a $55,000 allowance race on the closing night card at his home track of Evangeline Downs.
