Super Froilic has a HUGE shot here getting 8lbs into Lava Man....if I remember correctly, he is about 1-2 pts slower then Lava, getting those 8lbs could be the difference

Where is Surf Cat? Are the connections admitting that he doesn't get 10f? Or what?

Buffy, we are looking at a stellar (heavy sarcasm intended) field of 5  older horses

1. Lava Man (O'Neill/Nakatani) 124 lbs
2. Magnum (Arg) (Vienna/Valenzuela) 118
3. Seek Gold (Moquett/Borel) 117
4. Ace Blue (Brz) (Espinoza/Hollendorfer) 113
5. Super Frolic (Court/Cerin) 116

What was the best Gold Cup ever ran? What was the best overall field put together ever? I don't keep up with the West Coast races Just wonder though.

ceejay 07-05-2006 08:11 PM

With only 5 going, Vic "contrive a race call" Stauffer will be in prime form.

With $750,000 purse at 1 1/4 miles on the dirt for 3 yo and up you would think you would have more horses running if the west coast horse are so easy. What up with that?

If anybody is going to run with Lava Man its Magnum. The shift in weight at 1 1/4 mile will move magnum up at least 3 lenghts. Is that enough?

So does anyone know how Doug O'Neils horses have been running since they were sent to the detention barn? I venture to say if anyone was gonna beat Lavaman now would be the time it was gonna happen.

It's actually worse than that. He will miss Del Mar. He won't be back until Oak Tree.

For the Gold Cup, LM will have to go to the detention barn 24 hours in advance. They won't even be able to give him the milkshake the day before.

So you think its the milkshake? I think that all things change and it a combo of things that they are trying to nail down and blaming the biacarbinates is easy to do. How many tracks test for biacarbs?

I've got no idea what O"Neil gives his horses, but he did just get nailed with a bicarbonate positive. He obviously does give his horses milkshakes. I'm sure there's more to it than that but at the very least we know he at least gives his horses milkshakes.

I give Magnum a shot here, especially with Lava Man at 2-5. I think Seek gold will take too much money: I don't think this one will blow up like the Foster. I'll play magnum at any price > 7/2.

Buffymommy 07-06-2006 10:59 AM

I am kinda leaning towards Magnum as well. Just because Lava Man will be such little tiny odds. I will go with a tri box of LM; Magnum & SF.
