Irridescence Beverly D - Opinions

Heard about Irridescence on the show last night, both from Team Valor and from Steve Haskin (great interviews by Steve Byk as usual). It appears that she has a real shot, as it might be a good distance for her, and an added plus if the turf comes up anything but firm. Also, owner's intent (two more races before sold), says they are trying to put her in the right spot. Third choice, might get some value, but a pretty nice field. I am new to this thread, and would like to have some opinions...pro and con....Thanks!

i'd say she has a shot for sure, on her best she could get it done but she has had some trouble with consistency. she's facing some other good fillies though so i wouldn't take to short a price on her.

I'm shocked that any horse with her record (beat Ouija Board) is 3rd choice. I'll take that all the way to the bank.

The other girls will have a nice view of her behind.

Hope she behaves..... she's quite the quirky type. :D

I'll second that motion

I agree. Think she will make a good single to take a shot with in the pic 3, going wider in the other 2 Grade I's and leaving out Tin Man. With the rain we've had this week I think the turf is guaranteed to be less than 'firm'.

Also IMO this will be the last year of the million as I anticipate a purse increase next year.

copy cat (or... good minds think alike) same thing I'm doing... although will play a small ticket with something else in the Bev D (maybe Honey Ryder and Lady of Venice) just incase.

One of these days I'm going to hit the special pick 3/4 on million day..... been screwed out of it every single year so far.

will start 'capping all of the races later today, as going to swing by and get a form while I'm doing some running around.

Agreed, if she behaves herself, she could be very hard to beat. I wouldn't want to see the turf get too soft for her, though.

If anyone is thinking about betting her, i'd leave it until as late as possible if you can. She can get herself quite stirred up. I'm not sure how it will work in America, but she usually has to be mounted on the track, rather than the paddock.

Has she ever been ponied down to the gates before, mmsc? Sha Tin, maybe?

I heard she schooled in the paddock fine between the 3rd and 4rth yesterday. Of course there were probably 40 people around rather than the thousands that will be there tomorrow.

I think Irredesence is a solid single (with honey ryder on a back up ticket). I agree that the Tin Man is a toss, he won't have an easy lead with Sunriver in there. I'll probably use the Euros and maybe After Market.

Somedays she can be fine, but others she can really get herself into a real bad mood (if those are the right words).

I remember once in Dubai she had really got it into her head that she was going to cause havoc, and she did.

I saw her in Newmarket last month, and although she wasn't really bad it looked as though she was ready to 'flip', i think if there was anything else that upset her, she would have just gone mad.

She sticks her head up in the air, she gets on her toes, she will probably let out a kick or two and then she will give Murtagh a hard time when he first get on her back, but after then, she has usually had her 'fun' and she will settle down at the gates and during the race.

I'm probably the most avid (and perhaps only) fan of Citronnade out there, but I can't see why she was made the favorite with Irredesence running.

smuthg 08-10-2007 01:00 PM

Looking at Irridescence's PP's, including the win over Ouija Board, why isn't she in the Million. After Market may be a monster and The Tin Man is the defending champ, but this is not the best Million field I've ever seen... Her Timeform numbers are right there.

Not saying that she as good as Ouija Board, but if Ouija was in the Million, I'd put the mortgage on her...

NoChanceToDance 08-10-2007 01:11 PM

Normally she would be favourite, but she hasn't won in over a year now, and i think that is putting many people off. Her second last time at Newmarket (when Johnny Murtagh rode the winner) was her best performance for sometime, and a repeat of that would see her probably win, but consistancy isn't really her strong point and as some of us have posted before, she often lets her behaviour get the better of her.

If you take away her run in the Duty Free (where De Kock had expressed his concerned beforehand) she would probab;t be the FAV.

I hope she will win, but i cannot be confident.

NoChanceToDance 08-10-2007 01:19 PM

Am i right in thinking there could be a huge pace duell in this race? Again, this possibly isn't a good thing for Irridescence. Her best form has come when she has been allowed to race close to the pace and often when allowed to dictate from the front.

Citronnade and Jeannie R are likely to go off fast rom the gate, aren't they? With Irridescence likely to chase this strong pace, it might be worth discounting all three of them.

I won't be having a bet, but i would probably go with Lady Of Venice, who shouldn't be too bothered by softer ground as she did win on Good to soft in France.

Connections seriously considered entering in the Million, but decided to go in the Beverly D (alot better chance to win).

Cannon Shell 08-10-2007 03:47 PM

I would say that there is virtually no way that this race wont be Honey Rider over Lady of Venice. The Team Valor mare is a logical throw out. 6 year old mares that havent won in a long time and that have a front running style in a race they have no shot to get the lead in are usually horrible bets. The fact that she was narrowly able to beat OB in HK last spring is really of no signifigance tomorrow.

JJP 08-10-2007 04:02 PM

The turf will likely NOT be firm. This means the American horses are likely to be overbet, although Lady of Venice can handle soft. I really plan on playing against After Market and The Tin Man in the Million. And look for Honey Ryder to be overbet as well in the Bev D.

brockguy 08-10-2007 04:05 PM

I think a few are looking way into Irridescence's win when she beat Ouija Board. I thought she stole the race that day.. and it doesnt look like she'll have a nice pleasant time up front.. The more I see the race, the more im looking away from her..Honey Ryder for me..
