Pretty amazing that the JC fights the 'Sally Hemmings' name but allowed 'Thong and Panties' to go..

What's up with that?

GenuineRisk 08-08-2007 07:26 AM

If I remember correctly earlier articles about this, had Hemmings' descendants given permission, the owner would have been able to use the name, but they refused permission. As the article said, the JC is a private organization and can set whatever rules they want, as long as the names aren't in violation of laws against discrimination.

Shame- what were the names involved in the pedigree? Colonial Affair and Jefferson's Secret? Would have been a perfect name.

Maybe the worst horse name I've ever seen is entered tomorrow in the 4th at the Spa....

Pizza

Maybe the connections own a restaurant or something, but either way a pretty dumb name.

If I would ever get th chance to name one BAD ADZ. With the way they let some get by I woulkd like to see this one tried.

citycat 08-08-2007 10:02 AM

I think the fact that probably 90% of people would not even know who Sally Hemmings was, historically speaking. But the JC does have the right to do what they are doing.

It does make you scratch your head when they allow "Bodacious Tatas" to go thru (dont get me wrong I think the name is great but some could find it a little offensive I guess).

I think that's a hilarious name.

I think it comes down to whether someone thinks the person is being defamed- it's why questionable phrases can get through but names of actual people can be harder to get. Me, I'd be flattered if someone wanted to name a horse after one of my ancestors, but to each his or her own, I guess.

whodey17 08-08-2007 10:57 AM

The name the JC let through that boggled my mind was Rock Hard 10. I mean what else can that mean - ha ha.

Cajungator26 08-08-2007 11:02 AM

I'm surprised that nobody has tried naming a horse "Mr. Richard Lips."

Solari 08-08-2007 11:27 AM

Wasn't there a horse named "Harvey Pack" a few years ago? I guess Harvey didn't complain.

Indian Charlie 08-08-2007 12:52 PM

i was always fond of the quarter horse chingaderos.

My first arresting officer (underage drinking) was Richard Lipski. Huge mistake showing my friends the paperwork. Still get backlash from that one. Doesnt help that I have huge lips to boot. Nicknames- Louie Lipps a.k.a. Lip a.k.a. El Lipadore a.k.a. BLT (Big Lips on Toast) a.k.a. Lou a.k.a. Lou Black a.k.a. Hefty Liplock. The nicknames that Ive left out are countless/inappropriate to even begin to share.

Danzig 08-08-2007 06:20 PM

wonder if they would let one eyed jack thru?

LOL. My dad came up with that one and always used to tell my brothers that its copyright infringement to use it. We were so young we had no clue what he was talking about. I havent even scratched the surface of my nicknames. Here in Fox Chase, you are known by your alias(') only.

A few cool horse names would be: Bat Outta Hell, DirtDisher, Stanky Hang-low.

pmacdaddy 08-08-2007 08:21 PM

Love the name of one of the jumpers at Saratoga tomorrow...The Looper.

Remember playing him in both those DD's back in '05 just for the Caddyshack reference.
