CNL: Field for $1MM Virginia Derby

anyone else on here think anything about circular quay in this race? I was surprised when i saw his name on the entries. What are his chances? Seems like a grass runner with his come from behind tactics. Also did i see that CBS is showing this race? If so, who will be commentators?

The Field of the $1-million Virginia Derby (gr. IIT) at Colonial Downs:

1. Blazing Dynamo (Kent Desormeaux)
2. Strike a Deal (Ramon Dominguez)
3. Red Giant (Not Listed)
4. Circular Quay (Garrett Gomez)
5. Inca King (Shaun Bridgmohan)
6. Soldier’s Dancer (Cornelio Velasquez)
7. Duveen (Edgar Prado)
8. Love Dubai (Mark Guidry)
9. Summer Doldrums (Jose Lezcano)
10. Top Cross (Christopher DeCarlo)

Im thinking Love Dubai runs them down late. I look for Circular Quay to **** the bed once again.

Blazing Dynamo in an upset.....Full brother to Blazing Fury (Dynaformer & Blazing Kadie). Improving with every race. Taking a huge step up, but that's when you want to play him. He will be coming late with a furious run. I love Toner putting him in this race.

Circular Quay does have a decent dam-side pedigree for the turf (Shadeed, Danzig, etc.) but I honestly can't really think of a reason to play him in this race.
However, I'm sure I will talk myself into it by the time of the race. I always manage to invent some reason to play this colt that seems logical to me at the time......and then foolish later on.

Finally....a voice of reason.

I like Duveen who had a trouble trip last time and also had to overcome slow pace at CD, plus he gets Prado who has a few Va. Derby winners

I like him alot in this race also. He did have a crappy trip last out and should do better. And ya gotta love Prado!! By the way, love the Avatar, I have always liked the Phillies, esp. <drool> Darren Daulton<drool>, and the big bear at first John Kruk<not drooling for him but I just loved him>.And they had a good 3rd baseman, but for the life of me I cant remember his name.....Hollins???? maybe?? And Lenny D in the outfield! Sorry but thinking about Darren Daulton got me all discombobulated and my mind off track!!

Yes his name was Dave Hollins. Also was a big fan of Possibly Perfect, couldn't ask for a better name for a racehorse, the name fit her perfectly

Quay's bred decently for grass, but I don't think he wants to go ten furlongs no matter what surface it's on..

Dang it thats it Dave Hollins. My screename if for Pleasantly Perfect, that was my big guy. Loved, loved him. Cant wait for those babies to start running. They are yearlings this year.None in any sales yet but I did see one in the sale in NY. I guess everyone who bred to him is smart and gonna keep them for themselves.

Cannon will you give me win place show positions?

docicu3 07-17-2007 08:56 AM

Summer Doldrums may repeat at Colonial in this race as with two nice turf races with forward moves may do so again. Real nice win in G3 at similiar distance ....Why is SD left out of most discussions in this race??

wiphan 07-17-2007 09:42 AM

LD doesn't have a shot in heck to win this race.

I cashed nicely on Inca King that day, but not sure he's going to get the same set of circumstances on the front end again this time. However, he looks like he's getting good lately and I wouldn't be surprised if he showed up again with another big one.

With any pace pressure on that one, Duveen looks pretty tough in here.
