Lets hope they can change some graphics and get some good on air personalities. Its still painful for me to listen to some of the guys over there.

eajinabi 07-15-2007 10:30 PM

HRTV is like watching WEEKEND AT BERNIES

The Bid 07-15-2007 10:32 PM

I liked weekend at Bernies

geeker2 07-15-2007 10:46 PM

Jeff Segal looks like the guy Benny Hill would tap on the head...:D

onebadbeast 07-15-2007 10:50 PM

Great Additions But Still No Del Mar Or Saratoga.

Siegel=pretty Good Capper
Mccarthy=cant Read Very Well
Ball==ok To Look At
White=good Knowledge But Reminds Me Of Fred Rogers.
Jones=society Lady

Plus Other Unmentionables.

The Bid 07-15-2007 10:56 PM

Siegel - Sharp
Mccarthy - Kind
Ball - Goofy
White - Boring
Jones - The Jill Byrne of HRTV

The big problem I have is the chemistry between hosts. To me it seems like Siegle gets annoyed with Pincay

White gets annoyed with the Verracruysee

Millie is too goofy for anyone to get annoyed with her

The Jones White combo is great to sleep to, the chemistry is like a bad blind date

However, he gets very high marks from me. The guy takes his job very seriously and is highly competent. Besides being a true racing fan and a true horseplayer, he's one guy that really has a lot of knowledge about the history of the game.

He's one of the few guys in that profession who never leaves you wondering 'Did he find the sport, or did the sport find him?'

I listened to him and Kurt Hoover together A LOT growing up (Fox Sports West shows) and there is really not a pair I find more enjoyable than those two.

I think the best HRTV on-air people are clearly superior to the best TVG on-air people.

I agree HRTV hosts are superior to TVG. But one problem: Millie Ball must be illiterate. She absolutely positively cannot read and mispronounces the easiest of words. Maybe CDI or Magna can spring for a "Hooked on Phonics" to bring Millie up to speed.

I don't pay too much attention to the talking heads, but I must admit that Todd "Schmuck" (as Roger Stein refers to him) and Ken Rudolph are both unwatchable for any serious player. The rest of the TVG crew is fine as far as I'm concerned. I like the HRTV folks, but they really need to do something about their graphics package and video presentation. I can't stand the way they zoom into the track feeds so that they'll fit into their screen. You end up seeing grainy shots of horses with the heads of the jockeys cut off. It just does not look good. TVG's graphics and video presentation are superior.

LOL!

I'm not a big fan of HRTV at all. Their cameras must be older than I too.

One thing that I can't stand about TVG is the touting and the constant posting of Pick 4/6 tickets. If there was some sort of accountability I could deal with it, but I think it's very unprofessional to be posting $48 pick 4 and $120 pick 6 tickets constantly without keeping score. Most of the tickets are heavy in the early races, and light in the late races, which tells me they are more concerned about being alive in the late races than they are about actually winning the bet.

I would have much more respect for TVG if they kept score. I realize if they did keep score it would be pretty ugly. I can't remember the last time one of the touted tickets actually won. Kudos to HRTV for not following TVG in this area.

The Bid 07-16-2007 09:56 AM

White has followed the game with great passion for a long time. You can tell when he talks about a horse its his own recollection of the horse, not something hes being prompted to read

At first I didnt care for Seigle, now Im convinced hes the sharpest on air handicapper.

Its just the dynamic of the personalities they put together is so poor

theiman 07-16-2007 11:08 AM

One of Jon Whites best, was when he gave out a $144 ticket on a carryover day and hit the pick six. It paid $45K. His expression of shock from the winners circle was priceless. He hit a price horse on the ticket by adding in a horse who was bred in Washington, where Jon comes from.

whodey17 07-16-2007 11:56 AM

The graphics are horrible and they do not update the upcoming races often enough.

bigjag0716 07-17-2007 01:42 AM

I wish they would show hrtv on comcast, so I can have two different channels to watch. TVG has better racing, but like other posters have mentioned, they rant too much about their pick 4, pick 6 tickets. I cannot stand Shrump, Shrup (spelling) and Ken Rudolph. Both of those guys are so irritating. I have never seen any footage of hrtv before, so I can't give an opinion on what I think about it, But TVG can get a little irritating at times.

I think that instead of them always touting their pick 4 and pick 6 tickets, they should give you more exacta/trifecta/superfecta plays during each race. Not everyone plays pick 4's and pick 6's, and the real horse player isn't going to play the tickets they give out most of the time anyways. They just do it so they can show off if they hit it.

Which isn't very often. Amazing how these guys will reach for some totally illogical horse in the opening leg of a Pick 4, single him on a $120 ticket, and then act surprised when the favorite comes in and kills their ticket right off the bat.

Amazing...
