Ichiro to sign $100 million extension!

Reports are that the Seattle club has reached agreement with Ichiro for 5 year extension at $20 million per...$100,000,000...has a nice look to it!

Wow, what is he? 3-3 with the first inside-the-park homer in All Star history, and he's driven in both runs! What a fantastic player!

NOW he deserves the spotlight, not one with a questionable past.

They better get it signed tonight. He probably has a something in his contract about being allstar MVP

Too late...Ichiro named All Star game MVP...not much doubt...first inside-the-park home run in All Star history!

If you're a Minnesota Twins fan(me), and you wanna see Torri Hunter remain a Twin (also me), you hate this. His contract is up at the end of this season, and that contract that Ichiro just signed just raised the price-tag on Torii more.

I think the Twins will make Torii a very competitive offer, but some team will just offer him a ridiculous amount and he'll play for someone else next year. Now if I were to speculate on which team that would be, all just phrase it like this: "I know Coco Crisp won't be the starting Center Fielder in Boston next year... I'm not saying Torii goes there. I'm just saying Coco Crisp won't be"

As a life-long Twins (Wash Senator) fan, I share your pain...we just can't match the offers he will no doubt get! He's no Ichiro but his defense alone will get him top dollar...and he's having a great year at the plate!

Well that's the thing. His bat has been consistent this year. His bat has always had pop, but he goes through big slumps and massive hot streaks. The peaks and valleys of his batting average over the years are quite famous around here. BUT! In the the last year now, from like late July of last season to now, he's only been swinging well. No slump in between. He's putting together a career year (what a shock... in a contract year). With that being said, he's been the face of the Twins franchise for over 5 years now. With a new stadium opening in '09, people aren't gonna be willing to hear the same b.s. about how the owner won't pay the big bucks. The only way I can stomach letting Torii go without ownership making a serious attempt to bid for him, is if that $$$$ gets diverted to Johan Santana, whose contract is also up after either this season or the next.
