Arlington's Announcer today

He sounds like the guy that does Maywood during the week but it shows you how lucky we are to have John G Dooley. Not a fan at all

That is the Maywood guy (heard it announced earlier). Don't remember what happened to Dooley - I wasn't paying attention.

Sickening that I know that :) Too many Wednesday tilt sessions

Nobody coming with a wide and hopeful run or being ridden with the whip. Dooley is the best.

You don't like him?

MaTH716 07-08-2007 02:23 PM

Dooley is a tough act to follow. He is a very close #2 for me right behind Durkin. But I am biased being from the NY area. TVG said that Dooley was under the weather.

Scav 07-08-2007 02:27 PM

Dooley fits the Arlington crowd perfectly. Most of the people, especially on the weekends are there to get hammered and get a tan, the place to be on Friday afternoons and all day Saturday. At most some of these people will wager a total of $30-$40, even that is stretching it. But, he gets people pumped up, his stretch calls have become even energetic, probably because the racing has gotten better. What I like about Dooley is the same thing I like about Stauffer is that when you don't expect it, they have hilarious one liners that catch your attention. Today's guy has had the same call for four races.

The Bid 07-08-2007 02:41 PM

Dont like him. Hes the best, love him

jwkniska 07-08-2007 03:30 PM

TVG right before AP's first today said that Dooley was sick, so wouldn't be calling the races today. He's a million times better than the guy today.

The Bid 07-08-2007 03:36 PM

I dont think that guy who called today is bad at all, Dooley is just that good

I, for one, enjoy the canned cheering.

That is because the announcer booth is right above alot of boxes

letswastemoney 07-08-2007 03:55 PM

Dooley makes me excited even when I lose :)

ArlJim78 07-08-2007 04:35 PM

the canned cheering and hoofbeats, along with Dooley make it better to have the sound off at Arlington. "Thee field has reached the starting gate", "two lengths behind that".

There was a rumor around AP today that Dooley MAY have gotten in hot water over a conversation he had with Lauren M. on air before the 1st race Friday. I was there and did hear it and it was interesting. Did anyone else catch it?
Basically they were doing their pre-race banter crap and Lauren said to the crowd that it was sunny and you better wear sun screen. Dooley came back with "Lauren, I always have protection, you know that". Lauren answered "Yes John, I'm sure you always have protection with you" and then Dooley said one last comment confirming his "protection".

OK..paraphrasing..yes..but the gist is there. And at "fan friendly" AP, I wonder if he wasn't put down for a day
