War Emblem: What to do now?

there's an article on bloodhorse saying his owners in japan no longer want to fool with him. this is the second year that he covered no mares. seems they're interested in getting rid of him. this presents a bit of a problem since his previous owners are both deceased.
here's hoping we don't have another derby winner disappear in japan. hopefully someone will step up and bring this guy back to the states. if he's not interested in mares, maybe they could have the dual-classic winner at ky horse park.

that sucks geek

anyway, War Emblem needs to carry a rainbow flag and join the parade's!

never liked his owner, so by default i never liked the horse (well, after he was purchased 3 weeks away from the derby). I guess it doesnt bother me that there will not be any baby emblems around.

Its to bad that he doesn't have any interest in covering mares. His first crop (4 foals) is 75% winners right now. And the 4th foal, has a record of 4 starts, 0 wins, 1 place, and 2 shows. He doesn't seem to be doing that bad as a sire. I think his second crop even has a winner or two already as well.

You didn't like Reinaman or you didn't like the middle east guy that bought him?

I cant remember but did they try to breed him hear first or did he go straight over there? Maybe someone can bring him back over here and try to get him to do his business.

he went right over there, and no luck with him. he covered a few mares, i think he has a total of about three dozen offspring--but not one mare covered this or last spring.

and the reason i mentioned the owners is that it seems quite often these days, owners (such as the lewises) have it put into a contract when they sell, that if the buyer decides to re-sell, they have right of first refusal. but since there ARE no previous owners, obviously that isn't an option.

Old Friends in KY has said before that they will try and get him if no one else was interested.

I would think someone would want to try and breed him. I think its worth the effort atleast.

i just wonder what the deal is. libido issue? or maybe a physical issue--i wonder if he's having pain somewhere when he tries to cover, so he won't try any more.

i know other horses have had issues at first, but his have dragged on for years now. slew was a timid breeder at first.

i think war emblem would be worth working with, if you can find the root cause....

letswastemoney 07-08-2007 02:46 PM

He likes other male horses

AeWingnut 07-08-2007 03:15 PM

Prince Ahmed bin Salman bought War Emblem from the Reinman (sp?)
anyway... He died via a CIA induced heart attack at 40 something I think

War Emblem may just need different stimuli
or maybe he just likes to get to know her first
:o

This is the horse responsible for getting me hooked on this sport. I do hope things turn out well for him.

Initially, he would cover some mares and totally reject others, without rhyme or reason; no pattern could be detected in which he would mate with and which he would reject - not color, not markings, not experience (maiden mares vs veterans). He just liked some mares and didn't like others. That's why he has some foals on the ground.

IrishofNDMan 07-08-2007 08:23 PM

he won't get with any mare, only 10's or better!
