New Thorograph Equibase Product For 'cappin
Does anybody have any knowledge of this product and whether it adds anything to our ability to predict race outcome. Overall how can any product that fails to take into account layoffs/trainer stats and jocks be helpful.....but like all here I remain with an open mind to learn... |
I kind of like the single rating system. I have never used TG, been a drf user. I'll have to give this a try though. It seems very simplified.
______________________________ Thoro-Graph™ Form Ratings provide an easy to use evaluation of the current form of horses competing against each other by creating a single rating for each horse. Thoro-Graph™ Form Ratings are based on Thoro-Graph™ Performance Figures, which take into account weight carried, ground loss, effect of wind on the final time, and track speed to provide an overall measure of ability shown by each horse in a race. Thoro-Graph™ Performance Figures are calculated by using the time of the race, beaten lengths, ground lost or saved, weight carried, and the effect wind may or may not have had on the time of the race. The final figure is manually adjusted with a carefully crafted track variant. Thoro-Graph™ Form Ratings are computer-generated evaluations of horses’ form, based on their most recent Performance Figures earned over the same or similar surfaces. In using the Thoro-Graph™ Form Ratings, it is useful to look at not only who the highest-rated horse is, but the spread between the contenders, to see how competitive the race is. Sometimes the highest-rated horse is not the favorite, and sometimes a longshot is rated near the top, and worth backing. |
Are these new numbers going to be added to the normal TG product?

This, from the Thorograph message board:
"JB is out of the office today. He can fill you in more about the marketing of Thoro-Graph Form Ratings offered by Equibase tomorrow. Let me say in the interim that TG Form Ratings are intended for the perhaps less sophisticated handicapper--one who doesn't have the time or inclination to look at individual sheets, patterns, form cycles, etc--one who just wants a quick assessment of how fast horses are in each race and how they stack up against each other. We purposely inverted the scale making the higher numbers faster efforts and we adjusted for weight at time of entry to make Thoro-Graph Form Ratings easier to understand. Thoro-Graph Form Ratings are intended for a different segment of the market. Make no mistake, however, Thoro-Graph Form Ratings are based on the same Thoro-Graph data you see on sheets, Thoro-Quick, or whatever data product you purchase. TGAB" |
