Michael Neuman, who was hired in late February as the chief executive officer of Magna Entertainment Corp., is leaving the company, it was announced June 22.

A two-paragraph press release issued by MEC said that Neuman was leaving to pursue other opportunities. The release also said MEC chairman Frank Stronach will assume the title of interim CEO, a position he held for several months prior to the hiring of Neuman.

In Neuman's short tenure, he helped announce the formation of the controversial TrackNet Media Group, a joint content provider venture with Churchill Downs Inc.

A letter sent by Neuman in May to the California Horse Racing Board became the center of controversy over the refurbishing of the barn area of MEC-owned Santa Anita Park. The letter reportedly said MEC would be unwilling to fund a renovation of the barn.

Stronach then made a personal appearance at the June 19 meeting of the CHRB, making a pledge of $24 million that, in part, would be used to upgrade the Santa Anita barn area. During his presentation to the CHRB, he said that Neuman had "been very much reprimanded."

In the press release, Stronach is quoted as saying: "Michael worked very hard during his time at MEC and we wish him well in his future endeavors."

Neuman, who did not return a June 21 call from The Blood-Horse inquiring about his employment status, issued the following statement: "I wish my colleagues at MEC well going forward and hope that the company will be successful in implementing its long-term plans."

Shouldn't the title of this thread be " Goodbye Neuman? "

I wonder if Neuman is going to go kidnapp a dog and drop it off in up-state New York. Maybe he will also get lost in Ohio and get shot at by a farmer. Or maybe he try to strap a rickshaw to the back of a homeless person.

Sorry, I thought this was at least more interesting than the list of Suburban Nominees.

Oh it is interesting and thanks for posting. It seems like Magna is a revolving door for Executives.

That's a tough list to outdo. Noble effort on your part, really, but those titans of the turf hold sway.

The articles about Magna executives leaving are basically just fill in the blanks. Like celebrity obituaries, racing writers probably keep a file for every new Magna hiree, and just pull out their " farewell " when necessary.

The funny thing is, those exact words may show up in one of their stallion ad's one day.

And particulary fitting seeing that 'Hello Newman' is running today! (BEL 4th)

Don't you just get tired of seeing the bull$hi! excuses of why the CEO's of Magna keep hitting the road?

To pursue other opportunities?

Please - don't insult what little intellingence I still have....

Magna is the worst thing that has happened to racing. They are killing MD with their ineptness. It hurts me deeply to see MD racing a shell of what it once was. The opportunities are there to utilize the strengths. They prey on the weakness. They can all go to hell.

I hope Magna and Joe DeFrancis never see a dime of slot income.....

My man Klaus has done an awesome job with the food in the dining room at Pimlico.

I've heard from a reliable source that Dr. Ahzkizeur is the likely replacement.

Yeah, but he can't get decent beer at any of the bars. I'd rather stick pins in my eyes vs. drinking Bug or Bug light. Why give the consumers a choice, right?

blackthroatedwind 06-22-2007 10:01 PM

I'll speak to him about the beers.

phystech 06-22-2007 10:17 PM

I can't - I asked him to put seats at the bar at Pimlico and he complied - relunctantly. So, how can I can ask for better beer when he's given me a seat to park my big ass on? I like Blue Moon draft - can you pulse him on that, please?

Judging by how Gulfstream slots have been doing, he probably deserved to get canned.

Just a bunch of numbers but they seem to be generating less than $100/machine/day and lagging far behind not just the Indian casinos but also the Hollywood Dog Track which is a couple miles away.
