How do you bet????(long)

When im betting i pick my horse and bet win/place usually at 2:1 ratio then i put my horse under some other in an ex. like 2,3,4/1 and do a tri 2,3,4/2,3,4/1 while im generating a decent profit so far this year it drives me crazy when all the horses i pick hit the board and i have the win but lose out on the ex and tri. Is there a better way to attack this? boxing gets kinda expensive but it is frustrating when my horse wins and ex returns $80 or higher and tri sometimes bigger. Any way to better use my top horse??? ANY advice would be greatly appreciated. LIke i said not trying to be greedy but i hate it when i see a race pretty clear and am right and i dont cream the race. I dont play pk 3' or pk 4's b/c im the king of the pick 3 of 4 and have gotten frustrated and no longer play them. i know there are some really really really good players on this board so id appreciate the advice. thanks

Bet it all to WIN!

Stop betting to place if you're backwheeling in exactas. It's a waste of money.

blackthroatedwind 06-20-2007 08:53 PM

Stop betting to place and never wheel ( front or back ).

unassailable08 06-20-2007 09:23 PM

So what is

exactly a wheel and do yall hate Boxing exactas and trifectas also.

Good advice from Ateam and BTW. I am an exacta player and when I see the race clearly I make sure to key my horse on top. I like to make sure I am getting double back on the exacta from what I bet. If I am betting a twenty dollar exacta with 1 over 3 horses then my cost is $60. So the minimum exacta payout better be more than $12 ($12 x $10 = $120 twice of $60).

Sometimes I do. But I don't like giving 4 horses the same amount of chance of winning. I think one should be able to narrow the field down to at least two horses that can win the race.

I usually only box horses in big fields (10+), but I'll make the occasional exception.

I almost always end up boxing 4 or 5 horses in the Derby. :o

I wake up and play darts to help me decide which horse i'm going to use in each race. I fire up MS Word and type the name of each horse in 36 sized comic sans font. Then I print out the names of the horses and cut them individually with the scissors my mom bought me for kindergarten. Best scissors i've ever owned (and they're lucky too). I pin the names to the back of the dartboard and my first throw is my A horse, second horse is my B horse, third horse is my C horse, and fourth horse is my $ horse...the horse that can't lose, but I won't use.

I almost always prefer wheels to boxes. Wheels allow you to construct wagers weighted towards the horses you like better and the ones you perceive to offer better value. Boxes weight each equally for each slot in the order of finish.

Not sure if this will help ...but...

A ) Only ""box"" when you have two or more grey horses in the field.
B ) The only way to use the ""wheel"" is using the dart board (see the way in a post up in this thread )
C ) You should ONLY use the ""win"" bet for the horse that crosses the wire first.. Unless its a DH..and then you may wish you played more then one horse to win.
D ) If your really confused A good hint is look @ the color of the silks, IF they match the color of the bandages on the legs... Means the Trainer pays attention to details... [ that has NOT been added to the DRF trainer stats yet ]
E) Check the local's tracks Happy Hour schedule, this will ADD to your bankroll.
F ) Hang out by the rail..and listen to the railbirds, and play whatever they Dont say will win. [ guys with the binoc. are a added plus ]
G ) Write down where you parked the car.. IN case you DID find the happy hour.
H ) Have Fun after all been thru and remember to pick up(on the way out ) the advanced form for tomorrows races, so you can study all nite and do this again tomorrow !
:p
